Nix the Nuts Mobile Spay / Neuter Clinic 

We are happy to announce the launching of our newest and most ambitious project to date…the purchase of an R/V (recreational vehicle), that will be transformed in to a FREE mobile spay / neuter clinic.  Our goal is to eradicate the multitude of sick and starving dogs and cats on the island through sterilization.  At our main facility we work tirelessly throughout the island to educated the community about sterilization and proper pet care, however, there is a remarkably large percentage of dogs and cats that live in what is called the ejido part of the island that occupies most of the center jungle area.  This very heavily populated area is where the main transversal road connects the east and west side.  It is the farthest inhabited area from our facility which makes it very difficult for the residents to connect with the rest of the island.  The sad reality is these “pets” the dogs and cats of this rural area will never receive any type of medical care such as vaccines against distemper or parvovirus, de-worming, prevention of heart worm, anti-parasite medicine, nails clipped, ears cleaned etc etc… resulting in a very short, painful and disease riddled life span. The number of sick and diseased dogs, puppies, cats and kittens in this area is overwhelming.  Our “Nix the Nuts” mobile clinic will be in the heart of this area working 7 days a week to solve this problem.

We want to thank Diane Telander from Glen Ellyn Illinois for her many years of loyal support and the donation which brought this dream to fruition.  We also want to thank Jiri Schubert & Bill Asbell from Atlanta for their generous donation made on behalf of the Marianne Halle Foundation which will help outfit the mobile clinic, and our local hero, Dr Pascual Piccolo who will help oversee the renovation of the RV.

Nix the Nuts Clínica de Esterilización Móvil

Nos complace anunciar el lanzamiento de nuestro proyecto más nuevo y ambicioso hasta la fecha… la compra de un R/V (vehículo de uso recreativo) que se transformará en una clínica móvil para esterilización. Nuestro objetivo es erradicar la multitud de perros y gatos enfermos y hambrientos de la Isla por medio de la esterilización. Desde nuestras instalaciones centrales trabajamos incansablemente por toda la Isla para educar a la comunidad sobre la esterilización y los cuidados adecuados de las mascotas; sin embargo, existe un amplio porcentaje de perros y gatos en la zona del ejido en la Isla, que abarca gran parte de la región central de la selva. Esta es una zona muy poblada por la cual la carretera transversal atraviesa la Isla de este al oeste.  Es la zona habitada más poblada y está muy alejada de nuestras instalaciones lo que hace que sea muy difícil a los habitantes poder conectarse con el resto de la Isla. La triste realidad es que estas “mascotas”, los perros y gatos de esta zona rural, nunca recibirán cuidado médico alguno como vacunas contra el moquillo o parvovirus, desparasitación, prevención contra el gusano del corazón, medicamentos antiparasitarios, corte de uñas, limpieza de orejas, etc. etc… dando como resultado una vida muy corta, dolorosa y plagada de enfermedades. Es abrumadora la cantidad de perros enfermos y afectados, así como de cachorros, gatos y gatitos que hay en esa zona. Nuestra clínica móvil Nix the Nuts estará ubicada en el corazón de esta área trabajando los 7 días de la semana para resolver este problema.

An ex-Connecticut Yankee who has called Cozumel home for over 18 years, Laura ran away to the Caribbean years ago, bumped around the islands teaching SCUBA diving, lost some time in Jamaica, and finally stopped in Cozumel for a 2 week vacation that hasn’t ended yet. With a degree in Journalism from a fancy private college she convinced her parents to pay for, Laura writes, edits, and creates the weeklyCozumel 4 You news,social media, and promotional articles about the island, as well as moderates the Cozumel 4 You Facebook group, which currently has over 25,000 members. Her long suffering husband, Fabian, has long since resigned himself to having zero private life, as he’s been involved in her various schemes and plots since his arrival. Proud parents to a variety of rescue dogs and cats, Laura continues to be the bane of her traditional Mexican mother-in-law’s existence, as she muses her way through life in the Mexican Caribbean.

Una ex yanqui de Connecticut quien llama hogar a Cozumel desde hace más de 15 años. Laura escapó al Caribe hace años, desplazándose de una isla a otra dando clases de BUCEO. Se dedicó a perder el tiempo en Jamaica y finalmente se detuvo en Cozumel para pasar unas vacaciones de 2 semanas que aún no terminan. Convenciendo a sus padres que pagaran una elegante universidad privada, obtuvo su título en Periodismo y Laura crea semanalmente Cozumel 4You, medios sociales y artículos promocionales sobre la Isla y también es moderadora en el grupo Cozumel 4 You en Facebook que actualmente cuenta con 25,000 miembros. Fabián, s umuy tolerante marido, desde hace mucho tiempo se resignó a no tener vida privada, pues se ha visto implicado en los diversos proyectos y planes que urde Laura. Son orgullosos padres de diversos perros y gatos rescatados. Mientras contempla su paso a través de la vida en el Caribe mexicano,Laura continúa siendo la pesadilla en la existencia de su muy tradicional suegra mexicana.
