CAPA’s Iconic Water Tower to be Demolished

Downtown Cozumel will be losing it’s iconic water tower.  Representatives from CAPA (the island’s water authority)  have announced plans to tear down the 35-year old water tower.

The tank is in an advanced state of deterioration and is no longer in use, but served the island for many years to increase water pressure to aid distribution throughout San Miguel.  As the island grew and expanded a modern water base was added on Av. 95, making the water tower obsolete.

The tower is expected to be removed in about a month, as soon as the best method for demolition has been established.
