2nd Annual FINA High Diving Championships in Cozumel May 8 - 10

The world’s best high divers will be convening in Cozumel this weekend for the 2nd Annual High Diving Championships.  The men’s competition is composed of 5 rounds, while the female division has only 2.  The FINA event uses 2 different levels of platforms, a 27 M for the men’s division and a 20 M for the female competitors.  Be sure and check out the official promotional video.

De Mayo 8 al 10 se lleva a cabo el 2ª Competencia Anual de Clavados FINA

Los clavadistas más importantes del mundo se reunirán este fin de semana en Cozumel para la 2ª Competencia Anual de Clavados. La competencia varonil se compone de 5 rondas, en tanto en la femenil es sólo de 2 rondas. El evento FINA utiliza dos niveles distintos de plataformas; una de 27 metros de altura para la categoría de hombres y una de 20 metros para la categoría de mujeres. No se pierdan el video promocional.

Cozumel Readies for Turtle Nesting Season 2015

Although May 15th traditionally considered the official start of the turtle nesting season the Comité de Protección a la Tortuga Marina, the Municipal Department of Ecology and the Department of Public Security have been busy planning for another busy and productive season. Public Security will soon begin restricting the passage of vehicles to the eastern part of the island after 6:00 pm.

Cozumel is fortunate to be a protected breeding area to two species of turtles, the loggerhead (careta careta) and the green turtle (chelonian mydas).  During the months of May through September these turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on Cozumel’s eastern beaches.  Sea turtles generally lay between 150-200 eggs each time and can nest up to 6 times in a breeding season.  The eggs take around 60 days to incubate before the baby turtles head toward the sea.

If you’re arriving from the US and have a little extra room in your suitcase, the biologists are looking for headlamps, the flashlights worn on your head, to keep your hands free, as well as rolls of fluorescent marking tape.  To find out more about the program, or to get involved, please visit the Municipal Department of Ecology, located at the Cenote Park on Av. 65.

Cozumel se prepara para la Temporada de Anidación de Tortugas 2015

No obstante que el 15 de mayo se considera tradicionalmente como el inicio oficial de la temporada de desove de la tortuga, el Comité de Protección a la Tortuga Marina, la Dirección Municipal de Ecología y la Dirección de Seguridad Pública han estado trabajando mucho haciendo preparativos para otra temporada activa y productiva. Seguridad Publica en poco tiempo comenzará a restringir a partid de las 6:00 p.m. el paso de vehículos a través de la carretera oriental de la Isla.

Cozumel tiene la fortuna de ser un área protegida para la anidación de dos especies de tortugas: la tortuga caguama (careta careta) y la tortuga verde (chelonia mydas). Entre los meses de mayo y septiembre es cuando arriban estas tortugas a las playas orientales de Cozumel para anidar. Las tortugas marinas generalmente ponen entre 150 a 200 huevos por vez, y pueden anidar hasta 6 ocasiones durante una temporada de desove. Los huevos tardan alrededor de 60 días en incubar antes de que las crías se dirijan al mar.

Si acaso usted está viajando desde los EUA con destino a Cozumel y tiene un poco de espacio adicional en su equipaje los biólogos necesitan linternas de cabeza para mantener las manos libres, linternas, así como rollos de cinta fluorescente para demarcar zonas. The Magic of Design Celebrates 10 Years in Cozumel

It has been ten years since The Magic of Design opened their doors at the humble Swiss chalet house at the corner of 10 and 11. In 2007, we moved to our current location and we expanded the showroom in 2008. We have seen many changes both in our business and on Cozumel.

We survived Hurricane Wilma and the H1N1 scare and the global economy crisis. In recent years, the biggest challenge I see for the island is the number of people who have arrived to live here full-time. Our basic services sometimes seem stretched thin. We even have "traffic" now on Cozumel. Yes, we aren't Playa del Carmen or Cancun, thankfully - but it still presents challenges.

We at The Magic of Design have learned lessons over the last ten years. We have learned how to organize our truck deliveries and import orders better to save money, so that we don’t need to charge more. We also introduced a few lines of furniture this year from Mexico, including Acor Muebles and accessories from both Ajijic and Saltillo. Hopefully, over the years we have improved our service and the way we do things. Looking back over the last ten years, I am amazed at all the changes in our business. But some things remain the same, our dedication to each of our clients.

We have installed thousands of homes and condos with furniture, but we remember your name. We care when you have a grandchild or get a new puppy. We answer questions about the furniture we sell. We go above and beyond the warranty offered by our manufacturers. We are here for the long haul.

Cozumel is a small, home town community and many of us know each other well. We are proud to be part of such a wonderful place. I named it Mexican Mayberry back in 1997 when I started coming here to dive.  I don’t regret moving here and starting such a wonderful business. There have been challenges but great opportunities as well. So I would like to take this time, our ten year anniversary, to say thanks. Thanks for being our clients. Thanks for remembering us for both your furniture needs and the holiday cards we receive. Thanks for calling us up and going to dinner with us once in a while.

Ya son diez años desde que The Magic of Design abrió sus puertas en el modesto chalet suizo ubicado en la esquina de calle 10 y Avenida 11. En el año 2007 nos mudamos a nuestro local actual y ampliamos la sala de exhibiciones en el año 2008. Hemos sido testigos de muchos cambios tanto en nuestro negocio como en Cozumel.

Sobrevivimos el huracán “Wilma” y el susto del H1N1 así como la crisis económica mundial. En años recientes el reto más grande que he visto para la Isla el la cantidad de personas que viven aquí tiempo completo. En ocasiones nuestros servicios básicos parecen estar al máximo de las posibilidades. Incluso ahora tenemos “tráfico” en Cozumel. Sí, afortunadamente no somos Playa del Carmen o Cancún, sin embargo aún así presenta retos.

Durante los últimos diez años, en The Magic of Design hemos aprendido lecciones. Hemos aprendido cómo organizar entregas en camiones así como los pedidos de importaciones de mejor manera para ahorrar dinero, de manera que no tengamos que cobrar más. También introdujimos algunas líneas de muebles de México este año; incluyendo Acor Muebles y accesorios traídos de Ajijic y de Saltillo. Con suerte al pasar los años hemos mejorado nuestros servicios y la manera en que hacemos las cosas. Viendo hacia el pasado, el trayecto de los últimos diez años, me sorprenden todos los cambios realizados en nuestro negocio. No obstante, algunas cosas siguen igual, nuestra dedicación a cada uno de nuestros clientes.

Hemos instalado mobiliario en miles de casas y condominios, y recordamos sus nombres. Nos importa cuando nace un nieto o cuando adquieren un nuevo cachorrito. Contestamos las preguntas respecto a los muebles que vendemos. Superamos y sobrepasamos la garantía que nuestros fabricantes ofrecen. Estamos aquí hasta el final.

Cozumel es una ciudad y comunidad pequeña, y muchos nos conocemos buen. Estamos orgullosos de ser parte de un lugar tan maravilloso. En el año 1997, cuando comencé a venir para practicar el buceo, le puse el nombre de “Mayberry Mexicana”. No me arrepiento de mudarme aquí e iniciar un negocio tan fantástico. Los retos han existido, pero también las grandes oportunidades. Así que me tomaré este momento, nuestro aniversario número diez, para dar las gracias. Gracias por ser nuestros clientes. Gracias por acordarse de nosotros tanto en sus necesidades de muebles como por las tarjetas navideñas que recibimos. Gracias por comunicarse con nosotros y de vez en cuando acompañarnos a cenar.

Humane Society Pets of the Week

Enriqueta female 3 months old. Discovered on the beach by a small girl, who was not allowed to keep her, she was brought into the HSCI by an ex-employee.  . She is a gorgeous cat with a mustache marking on her nose that is very distinct.  She is very  nice and sweet,  and adores playing with feathers,and with other cats.  Come and visit Enriqueta and the rest of the cats we have at the Shelter.  We are open Monday to Sunday 9 a.m to 5p.m

Charrita, female 7 months.   Although she had a home with a European man, she never received any veterinary care, as a result  her legs are bowed.  When it came time for him to leave Cozumel, he finally brought her to the HSCI.  Charrita is a beautiful mix  of pitbull, very calm and friendly. She’s currently in treatment about her feet.  She’s a sweet dog and gets along well with the other dogs at the shelter.

Volunteer at the shelter, it is so important for the dogs ad cats to get more individual attention, you can walk our dogs or play with the puppies and cats everyday 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 4:30pm, children must come with a responsible grown up. We have identification tags for your pets, come and see them, remember your pet must have it's collar with id tag at all times. Enriqueta, hembra de 3 meses de edad. a ella la encontraron en la playa, una chica, que contactó a una persona que trabajaba antes con nosotros, ya que su familia no se la podía quedar. Ella es un hermoso gato con una mancha muy distintiva en la nariz. Súper juguetona y carismática, le gusta jugar con plumas y llamar la atención, es muy buen gato dulce y hermosos.

Estos y muchos otros animales les esperan en el albergue. Recuerden visitarnos en el albergue o en nuestra página web www.humanecozumel.org para conocerlos; quien sabe, posiblemente encuentren a ese amigo muy especial. Ofrezcan ser voluntarios en el refugio; es muy importante que los perros y los gatos tengan más atención individual. Pueden llevar a caminar a nuestros perros o jugar con los cachorros y gatos todos los días de 11 a 1 p.m. y de 3 a 4:30 p.m. Los niños deben venir con un adulto responsable. Tenemos placas de identificación para sus mascotas, vengan y véanlos; recuerden que su mascota de portar el collar con la placa de identificación en todo momento. Por favor, sean parte de la solución: adopten, esterilicen /castren a  su mascota, donen, cuiden a sus rescates (tráigalos para una revisión con el veterinario). Cozumel Red Cross Seeking Donations for their Annual Bazar May 15 & 16

The Cozumel Cruz Roja, or Red Cross,  has scheduled their next gigantic bazaar for May 16 and 17 beginning at 10 AM each day.  Meanwhile, your donations of gently used clothing and shoes (no tears or rips), small appliances in working condition, bedding, towels, kitchen items, decorator items, furniture, tools, etc. will be greatly appreciated. 

Please take your donations to Eli or Rosy at the Cruz Roja Clinic on Ave. 65 and Calle 25 Sur anytime during the week between 8 AM to 2 PM or 5 PM to 8 PM.  Kindly bag or box your donations and tape them closed.  If you need your items picked up, please call Eli or Rosa at 869 – 0698.  The funds generated from this bazar will go to the Diabetes Center that the Cozumel Cruz Roja has been creating.

La Cruz Roja de Cozumel busca donativos para su Bazar Anual los días 15 y 16 de mayo

Cruz Roja de Cozumel ha planeado su próximo bazar gigantesco en Mayo 15 y 16 a partir de las 10 a.m. cada día. En tanto, sus donativos de ropa y zapatos poco usados (sin roturas ni desgarrados), pequeños enseres domésticos que funciones, ropa de cama, toallas, artículos de cocina, artículos de decoración, muebles, herramientas, etc.., serán sumamente agradecidos.

Por favor entreguen sus donativos a Eli o a Rosy en la Clínica de la Cruz Roja en Avenida 65 y Calle 25 Sur, en cualquier momento durante la semana entre las 8 a.m. a 2 p.m. o 5 p.m a 8 p.m. Le solicitamos atentamente que pongas los artículos donados en una bolsa o una caja y ciérrenlos con cinta.  Si necesita que pasen a recoger sus artículos, por favor llamen a Eli o a Rosa al número 869-0698. Why Government Programs Can’t Publicize During this Period

No publicity on government programs on this period. Why?? Many people have asked me as to why there hasn’t been any publicity or promotions for some time now.  Here is the answer.
In accordance with the General Law of Institutions and Electoral Procedures regarding avoid inducing or forcing citizens to vote for the ruling party in both Federal, State or Municipal Government, Law prohibits the dissemination by any media of social welfare programs and government benefits for society itself. This is in order to provide fair competition between political parties and their candidates during the electoral process through the election campaign and allow people to reflect their vote. The  ban is in effect from April 5 through June 7, 2015 

The exception on this regulation is related on providing information for educational and health programs and emergency civil protection issues.

Por qué los programas de gobierno no pueden hacer publicidad durante este period

No hay publicidad de programas de gobierno durante este periodo ¿Por qué? Muchas personas lo han preguntado desde hace tiempo. Aquí está la respuesta.

De acuerdo a la Ley General de Instituciones y Procedimientos Electorales respecto a evitar inducir o forzar a los ciudadanos a botar por el partido gobernante tanto en los gobiernos federal, estatal o municipal, la Ley prohíbe la diseminación por cualquier medio, de programas de bienestar social y de beneficios de gobierno a la misma sociedad. Ello para que exista una competencia justa entre los partidos políticos y sus candidatos durante el proceso electoral, durante la campaña de elecciones y así permitir que la gente medite acerca de su voto. La prohibición está vigente de Abril 5 a Junio 7, 2015.

La excepción a esta regla se relaciona con proporcionar información para programas educativos y de salud así como situaciones de emergencia en cuanto a la protección civil.
