Now that Cozumel’s 2013 Carnaval is behind us, it’s time to take a moment and express  gratitude to the public service sector that made all three nights of parades, dances and concerts run so smoothly.  This past Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday literally thousands turned out to dance and celebrate in Cozumel’s malecon without serious incident.  Thanks, in part, to those who stood ready in the event their assistance was needed, including Cozumel municipal police officers, firemen and paramedics.

Another equally deserving, and often less visible, faction of the public works that deserves a huge thank you are the street cleaners and sanitation workers, who cleaned up an estimated 8.5 tons of trash, not once, but on three different occasions, so that the island looked clean and presentable immediately so that arriving tourists got to see Cozumel at it’s best.

Congratulations and thanks also to the royal court, contestants, dancers and bystanders who came out to cheer on the 2013 celebrations. See you next year!
