Xcaret Xailing will be in charge of increasing the offer of crossings from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, the largest inhabited island in Mexico

Miguel Alonso Marrufo, head of the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo in Cozumel, in an interview with representatives of various media, has confirmed that this company will be operating on this route starting in August.

“They already have the corresponding permits from the competent authorities. And we already assigned them a space on the San Miguel pier so that they can make their ticket office”

“They are going to start operations with two boats with a capacity of 650 passengers. They are also going to have two boats that can enter as support in the event that one of the main ones has any damage”.

These support vessels have a capacity of 350 passengers and would guarantee that the service is constant.

Although the shipping company has a concession that allows them to work 24 hours a day, they must comply with the operating rules of the island of Cozumel:

“We will be assigning the necessary docking bands to be able to operate and we will agree with the schedules assigned by the port authority, in this case also the port captaincy.”

The cost of moving Xcaret Xailing to Cozumel has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be within the range of those already in existence. It is important to mention that the rates are regulated by the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), but it is expected that they will be accessible both for tourists and for people who live on the island.

With the entry of this competitor, the market that uses this means of transport will be divided among three competitors. On average, the Cozumel route reports a monthly influx of 300,000 passengers, which the group enters with its ferries.

It is expected that with this shipping company there will be an increase in the number of visitors who choose Cozumel as a destination and that it will report an improvement in service and benefits for the community in general on the Island of Cozumel.
