Cozumel Prepares to Celebrate Biodiversity at the Emerald Hummingbird Festival.

The seventh edition of the Emerald Hummingbird Festival, an event dedicated to highlighting the importance of this bird endemic to the island, will take place next Saturday, April 26th, at the Center for Environmental Conservation and Education. The day, which will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will offer a variety of activities for the whole family with free admission. The festival seeks to raise awareness about the conservation of the Emerald Hummingbird through an art exhibition, birdwatching opportunities, and educational and fun workshops aimed at all ages. This event represents an initiative to promote the natural wealth of Cozumel and encourage citizen participation in the protection of its biodiversity. The organizers invite the community to join this celebration and learn more about this fascinating species. The Center for Environmental Conservation and Education, located at 65 Av. Zona Industrial, will be the meeting point for this day dedicated to conservation.

El Cedral Prepares to Celebrate 177 Years of Tradition at the Holy Cross Festival 

The town of El Cedral, the heart of the island of Cozumel, is preparing to commemorate 177 years of history and fervor with its traditional Holy Cross Festival. This celebration, which has its roots in the promise of farmer Casimiro Cárdenas during the Caste War, has transformed into a grand agricultural, livestock, and industrial fair, keeping its ancestral customs alive. The president of the Ejidal Commissariat Villa Cozumel, Oscar Pinto Silva, highlighted the historical significance of the celebration, recalling how the founders found refuge in El Cedral and built an independent community. He emphasized the collaboration between the ejido and the municipality to make this edition a memorable festival. The festivities will begin on Wednesday, April 23rd, at 5:00 p.m. with the solemn lowering of the Holy Cross from El Federal, followed by a Catholic mass at 6:00 p.m. and the dawn novena at 8:00 p.m. Throughout the days, attendees can enjoy a varied program that includes:

Cozumel Gears Up for the 54th Mexican Boat Rodeo 2025.

The municipality of Cozumel is preparing to host the 54th edition of the traditional Mexican Boat Rodeo, an event that will bring together fishermen from all over the Mexican Republic. Javier Martín Gaeta, representative of the organizing committee, announced at a press conference the details of this highly anticipated competition, which will take place on May 16th, 17th, and 18th, 2025. Martín Gaeta highlighted the collaboration of the Mexican Boat Rodeo Committee and the Municipal President for the realization of this event, with the aim of exceeding 100 participating boats and reactivating this important tradition on the island, which has been absent in recent years. Special logistics are anticipated to offer fun for both visitors and fishermen.

Activity Program:

Friday, May 16th: Captains’ Dinner at Kuza. Saturday,

May 17th: Boat departure: 07:00 hours.

Scales closing: 16:00 to 18:00 hours.

Sunday, May 18th: Boat departure: 08:00 hours.

Scales closing: 16:00 to 18:00 hours.

Awards ceremony: 23:00 hours at the downtown esplanade.

A change in the Saturday departure time was announced, moved forward to 07:00 hours for the benefit of the fishermen. Likewise, the event will be coordinated with the Sacred Mayan Journey to avoid interference with navigation.

Prizes: The organizers announced attractive prizes for the tournament winners:

First place: 2025 model car, motorcycle for the captain, and motorcycle for the sailor.

Second place: 2025 model cars.

Third place: 2025 model cars.

Fourth and fifth place: 2025 model motorcycles.

Registrations will be open until May 13th with a pre-registration cost of $7,000 pesos and a regular registration cost of $9,500 pesos. La séptima edición del Festival del Colibrí Esmeralda, evento dedicado a resaltar la importancia de esta ave endémica de la isla, se llevará a cabo el próximo sábado 26 de abril en el Centro de Conservación y Educación Ambiental. La jornada, que se extenderá desde las 10:00 a.m. hasta la 1:00 p.m., ofrecerá una variedad de actividades para toda la familia con entrada libre.

El festival busca crear conciencia sobre la conservación del Colibrí Esmeralda, a través de una exposición artística, oportunidades para la observación de aves, y talleres educativos y divertidos dirigidos a todas las edades.

Este evento representa una iniciativa para promover la riqueza natural de Cozumel y fomentar la participación ciudadana en la protección de su biodiversidad. Los organizadores invitan a la comunidad a unirse a esta celebración y aprender más sobre esta fascinante especie. El Centro de Conservación y Educación Ambiental, ubicado en la 65 Av. Zona Industrial, será el punto de encuentro para esta jornada dedicada a la conservación.

El Cedral se Prepara para Celebrar 177 Años de Tradición en la Fiesta de la Santa Cruz

El poblado de El Cedral, corazón de la isla de Cozumel, se alista para conmemorar 177 años de historia y fervor con su tradicional Fiesta de la Santa Cruz. Esta celebración, que tiene sus raíces en la promesa del campesino Casimiro Cárdenas durante la Guerra de Castas, se ha transformado en una magna feria agrícola, ganadera e industrial, manteniendo vivas sus costumbres ancestrales.

El presidente del Comisariado Ejidal Villa Cozumel, Oscar  Pinto Silva destacó el significado histórico de la celebración, recordando cómo los fundadores encontraron en El Cedral un refugio y construyeron una comunidad independiente. Subrayó la colaboración entre el ejido y el ayuntamiento para hacer de esta edición una fiesta memorable.

Las festividades darán inicio el miércoles 23 de abril a las 17:00 horas con la solemne bajada de la Santa Cruz del Federal, seguida de una misa católica a las 18:00 horas y la novena de alborada a las 20:00 horas.

A lo largo de los días, los asistentes podrán disfrutar de una variada programación que incluye:

Cozumel se alista para el 54º Rodeo de Lanchas Mexicanas 2025

El municipio de Cozumel se prepara para recibir la edición número 54 del tradicional Rodeo de Lanchas Mexicanas, un evento que reunirá a pescadores de toda la República Mexicana. Javier Martín Gaeta, representante del comité organizador, anunció en rueda de prensa los detalles de esta esperada competencia, que se llevará a cabo los días 16, 17 y 18 de mayo de 2025.

Martín Gaeta destacó la colaboración del Comité de Rodeos de Lanchas Mexicanas y el Presidente Municipal para la realización de este evento, con el objetivo de superar las 100 embarcaciones participantes y reactivar esta importante tradición en la isla, ausente en los últimos años. Se anticipa una logística especial para ofrecer diversión tanto a los visitantes como a los pescadores.

Programa de Actividades:

• Viernes 16 de mayo: Cena de capitanes en Kuza.
• Sábado 17 de mayo:
  • Salida de lanchas: 07:00 horas.
  • Cierre de básculas: 16:00 a 18:00 horas.
• Domingo 18 de mayo:
  • Salida de lanchas: 08:00 horas.
  • Cierre de básculas: 16:00 a 18:00 horas.
  • Premiación: 23:00 horas en la explanada del centro.

Se informó sobre un cambio en el horario de salida del día sábado, adelantándose a las 07:00 horas en beneficio de los pescadores. Asimismo, se coordinará el evento con la Travesía Sagrada Maya para evitar interferencias en la navegación.

Premios:

Los organizadores anunciaron atractivos premios para los ganadores del torneo:

• Primer lugar: automovil modelos 2025, moto para el capitán y moto para el marinero.
• Segundo lugar: Automoviles (modelo 2025).
• Tercer lugar: Automoviles (modelo 2025).
• Cuarto y quinto lugar: Motocicletas (modelos 2025).

Las inscripciones estarán abiertas hasta el 13 de mayo con un costo de $7,000 pesos para la preinscripción y $9,500 pesos para la inscripción regular.
