Earlier this month, Cozumel’s Mayor, Aurelio Joaquin Gonzalez signed an agreement with Álvaro Omar Lara Pacheco,  Merida’s Mayor, reaffirming a Sister City partnership between the two cities.  The signing of the affirmation took place during the Annual Convention of the National Federation of Municipalities of Mexico (FENAMM), held on the first day of March in the city of Boca del Rio.  Also in attendance during the signing was Angelica Araujo Lara, a former Mayor of Merida, who was in office during the original agreement.   The re-affirmation serves to continue the good work between the two cities.   The Sister City partnership has created opportunities for many island youth to pursue academic studies in Merida, as well as economic growth for both cities.
