This past Saturday was the very first release day for turtle hatchlings for the 2013 season.  Turtle eggs take approximately 51 days to incubate, so the very first nests marked of the season were ready to be released into the sea.  Approximately 300 hatchlings, 210 green turtles (or Chelonia Mydas) and 90 loggerhead turtles (or Caretta Caretta ) were released into the ocean.  You can see photos of some of the hatchlings on the Cozumel Turtles facebook page.

To find out how you can participate in this year’s turtle season, either contact, Cozumel Turtles on facebook, or visit the  Municipal Department of Ecology, located at the Cenote Park on Av. 65, just south of Moby Dick.
