Representatives from both the public and private sectors in Cozumel have joined together to work toward a “greener,” or more sustainable island. The sub-committee, “Protección al Ambiente y Cambio Climático” or Environmental Protection & Climate Change in English, falls under the Municipal Planning Department, and will work toward creating a municipal development plan to create a environmentally responsible island. This includes working with local schools to assist them in obtaining “green” certification, engaging the community in various activities to promote and educate environmental awareness.
In fact, if you’d like to express your opinion on the Economic and Environmental Plan for 2013 – 2016, you can do so at the official municipal webpage
