Art & Culture in Cozumel: Celebrations for Day of the Dead

To all our English speaking community and visitors, you are welcome to join us for the following activities to celebrate the day of the dead. 
Thursday, October 28th
The Museum of the Island is inaugurating an art exhibition about the Day of the Dead 8pm.
Monday, October 31st.
Opening Ceremony.
A walking tour of one of the most prominent traditions: altars, also called “ofrendas” and hall of distinguished deceased Cozumel people.
Contest and award ceremony of the altar exhibition.
Gastronomy exhibition: Typical dishes of day of the dead.
An exhibition of the typical Quintana Roo altars to the dead .
Musical festival organized by the city culture department.
7-10 p.m.
Place: Benito Juarez Park.
Tuesday, November 1st
“Mayan Legends Tour” 7 p.m.
Place: Old Municipal Cemetery
Other Activities:
Altar exhibition and typical dishes of day of the dead.
Literary “Calaveras” Contest for children and adults
Catrinas fashion show.
“Poetry, legends and songs” Spectacle with the singer-story teller Brigi Pulido.
7-10 p.m.
Place: Benito Juarez Park.
Wednesday, November 2nd.
A fun costumed family race “Catrines y Calaveras” ¡Run or they will catch you! Come with your “day of the dead”face make-up and traditional costume, and join this 2Km family fun race 6 p.m.
Starting & Finishing at Benito Juarez Park.

In the spring of 1998, Greg had a successful glassblowing related business in Seattle Washington, the city that is known as the glass art center in the United States. In March, on the first night of his much needed vacation in Cozumel, he met Liliana Macotela. This encounter changed everything.
By the end of that year, he had sold his business, packed up his engraving machine, and moved here to the island. He opened his working studio/gallery, called Galeria Azul, in the downstairs of his home. He is still there to this day engraving and painting, and in general, enjoying his life here with his wife, Liliana.
