Cozumel’s Director of Municipal Transit announced late last week that access to the eastern beaches will close at 8 PM during the Easter holidays.  The coastal perimeter road will be monitored by city transit authorities, who will be stationed at strategic areas such as Mezcalitos’s, Punta Morena and Punta Sur, and patrolling the areas in between. The closures are designed to provide additional safety for both residents and visitors.

The eastern beaches are known for their swift, and often dangerous currents, and additionally, the measure is aimed to discourage drinking and driving.   This is not the first year access has been restricted during peak holiday times, or during Cozumel’s turtle breeding season.
