Cleaning Up Refuse After Cozumel Carnaval 2015: More Than Expected

According to Cozumel municipal employees cleaning up after the festivities of Cozumel’s 2015 Carnaval celebration was much more than expected, in fact, 2 tons more.   Although the parade route is only 4 kilometers, it’s estimated that nearly 8 tons of refuse was collected each of the 3 parade nights. Projected refuse generated from the parades was the same as last year’s, which was only 6 tons nightly.

To accomplish this tremendous task, 60 municipal workers were enlisted to scour the malecon, or downtown waterfront, at the termination of each of the parades.
