Xochiquetzal Guerrero Nolasco, hostess of the new Cat Café, shares with us the essence of this innovative space dedicated to the coexistence and adoption of cats. This concept, which has gained popularity in various parts of the world, seeks to offer a welcoming environment where visitors can interact with felines rescued by the Humane Society. In an activity where they not only live with the felines but also enjoy snacks and drinks.
The Cat Café, which opened its doors in July of this year, was born out of the need to increase the visibility of cats that are looking for a home. According to Xochiquetzal, the statistics for cat adoption are alarmingly low, compared to those for dogs, due to the erroneous perception about their care and sociability. “We want to create a space where people can get to know these animals better and fall in love with them,” she explains.
Each visit to the café contributes directly to the cause, since the purchases made help support the cats looking for adoption. Xochi Guerrero emphasizes that it is not only about spending time with the felines, but also about promoting awareness on social media to attract more support.
The Cat Café is also committed to the community and offers various ways to help, either through in-kind donations, such as kibble and toys, or through volunteering. For those who wish to contribute, there is a list of needs available on Amazon.

Finally, during this visit, we were able to talk with Karina, Administrator of the humane society, who shared with us important progress in her sterilization and pet adoption activities at the end of August.
Karina reported that as of August, approximately 1,600 sterilizations have been performed at their facilities, which operate permanently through appointments. The procedures are carried out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with an average of between 15 and 30 surgeries per day.
Regarding pet adoption, the Humane Society has managed to place 15 dogs and 12 cats in new homes during this period. Currently, there are seven dogs available for adoption, all located in foster homes. In addition, two recently rescued dogs are in quarantine due to testing positive for the heartworm parasite, which requires special care and finding foster homes with suitable characteristics.
The Humane Society continues to receive animals through direct rescues and the independent rescue program, demonstrating its commitment to animal welfare and the rehabilitation of pets in vulnerable situations.

Xochiquetzal Guerrero Nolasco, hostess del nuevo Cat Café, que nos comparte la esencia de este innovador espacio dedicado a la convivencia y adopción de gatos. Este concepto, que ha cobrado auge en diversas partes del mundo, busca ofrecer un ambiente acogedor donde los visitantes puedan interactuar con felinos rescatados por la Sociedad Humanitaria. En una actuvudad donde no solo conviven con los felinos sino que al tiempo que disfrutan de snacks y bebidas.
El Cat Café, que abrió sus puertas en julio de este año, nace de la necesidad de aumentar la visibilidad de los gatos que están en búsqueda de un hogar. Según Xochiquetzal, las estadísticas de adopción de gatos son alarmantemente bajas, comparadas con las de perros, esto debido a la percepción errónea sobre su cuidado y sociabilidad. “Queremos crear un espacio donde las personas puedan conocer mejor a estos animales y enamorarse de ellos”, explica.
Cada visita al café contribuye directamente a la causa, ya que las compras realizadas ayudan a sostener a los gatos en busca de adopción. Xochi Guerrero enfatiza que no solo se trata de pasar tiempo con los felinos, sino también de fomentar la difusión en redes sociales para atraer más apoyo.

Finalmente durante esta visita pudimos conversar con Karina Administradora de la sociedad humanitaria quien nos compartio importantes avances en sus actividades de esterilización y adopción de mascotas al cierre del mes de agosto.
Karina informó que hasta agosto se han realizado aproximadamente 1,600 esterilizaciones en sus instalaciones, que funcionan de manera permanente a través de citas previas. Los procedimientos se llevan a cabo los martes, miércoles y jueves, con un promedio de entre 15 y 30 cirugías diarias.
En cuanto a la adopción de mascotas, la Sociedad Humanitaria ha logrado colocar 15 perros y 12 gatos en nuevos hogares durante este periodo. Actualmente, hay siete perros disponibles para adopción, todos ubicados en hogares temporales. Además, dos perros rescatados recientemente se encuentran en cuarentena debido a que resultaron positivos al parásito del gusano del corazón, lo cual requiere cuidados especiales y búsqueda de hogares temporales con características adecuadas.
La Sociedad Humanitaria continúa recibiendo animales a través de rescates directos y del programa de rescate independiente, demostrando su compromiso con el bienestar animal y la rehabilitación de mascotas en situaciones vulnerables.
