Cozumel: Host site for International Conference on Archaeoastronomy

Archeological experts from 9 countries will be converging on Cozumel this week for a 3 day conference to discuss the importance of the “archaeoastronomy,” of Cozumel in the ancient Mayan civilization.  The convention is planned by Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNSECO) in Mexico, National Institute of Anthropology and History(INAH)  and the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP), as well as State & Local officials.

In attendance will be 20 dignitaries from France, Mexico, Poland, Italy, USA, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Peru and even Slovenia.  Topics under discussion will be the uniqueness of Cozumel’s archaeological sites and their importance to the Mayans.
