Cozumel Military Marijuana

Military Operatives Discover More Than Seaweed on Cozumel’s Eastern Shores

While on a routine patrol on Cozumel’s eastern beaches a military brigade discovered more than just sargassum.

Some of the northeastern beaches on the island such as the area from Punta Molas to Playa Mezcalitos, have some of the largest deposits of seaweed, or sargassum.  These deposits can make the detection of washed up objects more difficult.

Operatives were surprised to find a black plastic bag, with what appeared to be a dried green leafy substance.  Although the contents were sent off to be officially confirmed, it appears that the bag contained 40 kilos of compacted marijuana.
