Festival on Life and Death Traditions

COZUMEL, Mexico. – Grupo Xcaret will be honoring the memory of the dead in the 17^th. edition of the Festival de Tradiciones de Vida y Muerte (Festival on Life and Death Traditions) from October 30^th. to November 3^rd.  through a cultural event with Mexican art, music, and culinary expressions where Querétaro will be the guest State, also featuring singer Natalia Lafourcade on November 1^st. and 2^nd.

Cozumel 4 You was at the press conference where it was revealed that the 2023 edition will have three large altars, 330 artistic presentations, 15 simultaneous venues, theatrical tours, among other activities where over 960 artists will be entertaining the public during the 5 days of this edition. Leticia Aguerrebere, Grupo Xcaret’s Art, Culture, Production and Festivals Corporate Director mentioned that more than 62 thousand people are expected to visit.

The Festival de Tradiciones de Vida y Muerte is one of the most eagerly awaited celebrations at Xcaret, and we are proud to be able to show the world the celebrations that the indigenous peoples dedicated to the dead. These celebrations have become Mexico’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. Our deepest gratitude to the bearers of each tradition who will be sharing them with the guests”, said Iliana Rodriguez Director of Sustainability and Institutional Relations of Grupo Xcaret.

For five days visitors will be able to enjoy Mexican traditions with a dash of wine tourism, representative of the guest State. The cultural fusion will include tastings of traditional menus and cuisine from Querétaro. Also parades led by Grupo Aztlán and the traditional estudiantina, a band made by students, of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) as well as performances by Grupo Xaha, Grupo Bohemio, Trío Queretanas and Trío Gallardía Huasteca. If guests wish to make crafts, there will be workshops for painting, chocolate, embroidery, design, handicrafts, ceramics, and peanut brittles.

As part of this edition’s experience, an interactive hacienda will be inaugurated. It will be a space where both children and adults will learn more about the traditions that are part of the Day of the Dead, through photography, paint, and sculpture exhibitions.

The main venue for the Festival will be the Xcaret México park. The Hotel Xcaret Arte, Hotel Xcaret México, La Casa de la Playa and the Ciudad de Playa del Carmen Theatre, where the performance will take place, will join in the celebration.

This year complementing the Festival, along with Fundación Truperías, a tour will take place throughout the Mayan area from November 3 to the 12^th. bringing theatre to 10 communities in Quintana Roo with the “La Chorcha de las Calacas” (The Noisy Party of the Skeletons.)

COZUMEL, México.- Del 30 de octubre al 3 de noviembre “Grupo Xcaret honrará la memoria de los muertos en la 17° edición del Festival de Tradiciones de Vida y Muerte, festividad cultural con expresiones de arte, música y gastronomía mexicana, teniendo como invitado al estado de Querétaro, teniendo también el 1 y 2 de noviembre la participación de Natalia Lafourcade.

En esta ocasión, Cozumel 4You estuvo presente en la conferencia de prensa donde se dio a conocer que la edición del 2023 tendrá tres altares monumentales, así como 330 presentaciones artísticas, 15 foros simultáneos, recorridos teatrales, entre otras actividades, en donde más de 960 artistas deleitarán al público durante los 5 días de esta edición, por tal motivo se espera la visita de más de 62 mil personas, informó

“El Festival de Tradiciones de Vida y Muerte es una de las celebraciones más esperadas en Xcaret, y es para nosotros un orgullo el poder mostrar al mundo las fiestas indígenas dedicadas a los muertos, que se han convertido en Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de México. Nuestro profundo agradecimiento a los portadores de cada tradición, que son quienes compartirá con los asistentes sus costumbres”, señaló Iliana Rodríguez, Dirección de sostenibilidad y relaciones institucionales de Grupo Xcaret.

Durante cinco días, los asistentes podrán disfrutar de las tradiciones mexicanas con un toque de enoturismo, característico de la entidad invitada. La fusión cultural se integrará con degustaciones de menú queretano y cocina tradicional. También se realizarán desfiles encabezados por Grupo Aztlán y la estudiantina de la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ), además de presentaciones musicales de Grupo Xaha, Grupo Bohemio, Trío Queretanas y Trío Gallardía Huasteca. Para los visitantes que busquen realizar alguna manualidad, se ofrecerán talleres de pintura, chocolate, bordado, diseño, artesanía, cerámica y palanquetas.

Como parte de la experiencia de esta edición, se inaugurará una hacienda interactiva, un espacio donde niños y adultos aprenderán más sobre las tradiciones que forman parte del Día de Muertos, a través de exhibiciones de fotografía, pintura y escultura.

La sede principal del festival será el parque Xcaret México; no obstante, a la celebración se sumarán Hotel Xcaret Arte, Hotel Xcaret México, La Casa de la Playa y el Teatro de la Ciudad de Playa del Carmen, que será el escenario de una puesta en escena.

De manera complementaria al festival, en conjunto con la Fundación Truperías, este año se llevará a cabo una gira por la zona maya del 3 al 12 de noviembre para acercar el teatro a 10 comunidades de Quintana Roo, presentando la obra “La Chorcha de las Calacas”.
