We’re at 5230 nests and  the number just keeps going up. Probably in the next couple of weeks will get the final number. I’m glad to announce that The Turtle Information center is operational. There are still a few details to iron out  but you can find information and a meeting point there. Is located in San Martin Beach, you will spot a White and Green RV and a White Tent. I’ll be there from 11 am to 4:00 pm. You can get T-Shirts and others stuff there, like Fridge Magnets and stickers. Tourists can be part of the Search And Rescue Program. To do that gather in the Information Center for an Informative Briefing all that for a donation fee of 25 dollars per person. We’ll give info, a light drink and the opportunity to rescue baby turtles with us and help in the releasing event. The releasing event  still take place at 5:30. Look for us on the other Side. Friday is day off, but you can go weekends. See ya there.

Turtle Trivia: Sea Turtles are considered living fossils did you know that? That’s because they’ve lived in this planet for the last 120 millions years. They survived the extinction of the dinosaurs, but they still roam the oceans. And the turtles in general are primitive in comparison with other reptiles, the oldest known turtle ever discovered in fossil record has 220 millions years old.

Cozumel’s turtle program is sponsored by the Cozumel Dept of Ecology, which is headed by Biol. Rafael  Chacon  T-Shirts and information available at the Department of Ecology Av. 65 and 11 street. Staff will be in the office from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Weekdays. So if you wish to get info about the turtle activities, donate or purchase an official T-Shirt, Rafael, Ricardo and the rest of the staff will  be there to serve you!!!To find out more about the program, or to get involved,  please contact Ricardo, at  charlesrichard527@hotmail.com  or Rafael Chacon at greenpez@facebook.com or call 872 5795.

An ex-Connecticut Yankee who has called Cozumel home for over 18 years, Laura ran away to the Caribbean years ago, bumped around the islands teaching SCUBA diving, lost some time in Jamaica, and finally stopped in Cozumel for a 2 week vacation that hasn’t ended yet. With a degree in Journalism from a fancy private college she convinced her parents to pay for, Laura writes, edits, and creates the weekly Cozumel 4 You news, social media, and promotional articles about the island, as well as moderates the Cozumel 4 You Facebook group, which currently has over 25,000 members. Her long suffering husband, Fabian, has long since resigned himself to having zero private life, as he’s been involved in her various schemes and plots since his arrival. Proud parents to a variety of rescue dogs and cats, Laura continues to be the bane of her traditional Mexican mother-in-law’s existence, as she muses her way through life in the Mexican Caribbean.
