While many sources are reporting that “high season” has already come to a close, many Cozumel island residents have a different quandary at hand:  which events to attend this busy weekend.

Cozumel’s 43rd Annual Fishing Tournament, “Rodeo de las Lanchas Mexicanas” will take place May 17 – 18th.  Weigh-In, as well as other exciting activities will take place Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the downtown pier.  The grand prize for this year’s event is a Mercedes Benz, so competition is fierce.   The official event webpage can supply further information.

Also of interest is the 4th annual Aeroshow Cozumel, which will also take place on Saturday and Sunday.  The event commemorates the anniversary of Cozumel’s aerodrome, “Capitan Eduardo Toledo Parra,” located in the southern hotel zone of the island. In addition to stunt planes, there will be ultralight planes, radio controlled airplanes and even motorcycles and classic cars. The stunt pilots that will be on hand are world class, including Skip Stewart, and Patty Wagstaff. The Canadian Skyhawk skydiving team, and Gordon Bowman-Jones will also be honored guests.    This family friendly event, offers free admission and a shuttle bus to the exhibit area.  For a complete list of events, check out the official webpage.

The second national choir festival will also take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday May 15 – 17th.  Organized by the FPMC, the event consists of 3 concerts which wil take place at the Hotel Cozumel’s auditorium.  Participants from as far away as Durango and Vera Cruz, will perform in three separate concerts, which will take place at 8 pm, on the three nights. For more information, contact the FPMC.

Lastly, and not to be missed the Cozumel Cruz Roja, or Red Cross, will be hosting a Grand Bazaar Friday and Saturday, at their facilities on Av. 65 from 10 am – 5 pm.  Volunteers have been collecting gently used items for over a month now, meaning the selection will be huge.
