President Calderon Spends Easter Holidays in Cozumel

Mexico’s President, Felipe Calderon and his family spent their Easter holiday right here on the island of Cozumel.  The President, who has commented on how much he enjoys the safety and tranquility of the island, arrived on April 3rd.  Accompanied by his wife, Margarita Zavala , Calderon and family engaged in scuba diving ,  bicycle rides, and even attended catholic mass in Cozumel.    The first family relaxed  at the “Quinta Maya,” the presidential retreat, located on the northern end of the island, in front of the military base.

El Presidente de México Felipe Calderón y su familia pasaron las vacaciones de Semana Santa en la Isla de Cozumel. El Presidente, quien ha comentado lo mucho que disfruta la seguridad y tranquilidad de la Isla, llegó el día 3 de abril. En compañía de su esposa Margarita Zavala, Calderón y su familia bucearon, pasearon en bicicleta e incluso asistieron a misa en Cozumel. La Primera Familia descansó en “Quinta Maya”, el retiro presidencial ubicado en el lado norte de la Isla, frente a la base militar.

Free "Cinema Ambiental" for Children Planned to Celebrate Earth Day

In order to celebrate Earth Day, a worldwide event that takes place on  April 22nd, the municipal Department of the Environment and Ecology along with sponsors from the private sector will be  showing a free “Cinema Ambiental” on April 14th and 15th at 6pm at the “Sam’s Café,  located just outside of Sam’s Club.  Also included in the Earth Day celebrations will be a mural contest, on April 20th, stressing the importance of protecting our natural resources.

Para celebrar el Día de la Tierra se ha previsto el "Cinema Ambiental" gratuito para niños

Con el objeto de celebrar el evento mundial del Día de la Tierra que se lleva a cabo el día 22 de abri, los días 14 y 15 de abril a las6 p.m. en “Sam’s Café” localizado justo afuera del Sam’s Club, la Dirección del Medio Ambiente y Ecología así como patrocinadores del sector privado harán una presentación sin costo de “Cinema Ambiental”. Las celebraciones del Día de la Tierra también incluyen un concurso de murales el 20 de abril dando énfasis a  la importancia de proteger nuestros recursos naturales.

Parking for the Feria del Cedral to be Streamlined

This year’s “Feria de Cedral,” which starts on April 28th, will have a few changes which officials are confident will not only streamline traffic but will also allow for a safe family environment.  There will be two parking lot areas this year with a charge for parking of $5 pesos.  The additional parking area will cut down on traffic delays, and allow a better flow to and from Cedral.  Another significant change will be the regulation of the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Since 1848 from April 28th through May 3rd, the small village of Cedral, located on the island of Cozumel, has celebrated la Feria de Cedal including the dia de Santa Cruz.  The feria commemorates the safe passage of 11 founding families who crossed over from the mainland to settle in Cozumel and escape the Caste War.  The feria features cultural exhibitions , livestock shows, games, food and more.

Se optimizará el estacionamiento durante la Feria del Cedral

La “Feria del Cedral” de este año, que inicia el 28 de abril, tendrá algunos cambios, y las autoridades confían que ello no sólo permitirá agilizar el tránsito vehicular sino que también brindará un ambiente familiar más seguro. Este año habrá dos zonas para estacionamiento con un cargo de $5 pesos. El área adicional reducirá los retrasos en el tránsito vehicular y posibilitará un mejor flujo desde y hacia el Cedral. Otro cambio importante será la reglamentación en cuanto a la venta de bebidas alcohólicas.

Desde el año 1848, del día 28 de abril al día 3 de mayo, la pequeña población del Cedral en la Isla de Cozumel ha venido celebrado la Feria del Cedral así como el Día de la Santa Cruz. La Feria conmemora el viaje seguro de las 11 familias fundadoras que cruzaron desde el continente para establecerse en Cozumel y huir de la Guerra de Castas. En la Feria se presentan  exposiciones culturales, exposiciones de ganado, juegos, comida y más.

Caribbean Hurricane Report 2012: Less Storms this Year

Reporte acerca de los huracanes en el Caribe para el año 2012: menos tormentas este año

Los expertos meteorólogos de la Universidad de Colorado pronostican una temporada de huracanes menos activa a comparación de los últimos años, con sólo 10 tormentas tropicales, 4 de las cuales se espera que lleguen a tener la intensidad de huracán. Son diversos los factores que han contribuido a la disminución de actividad, en particular la condición climática conocida como “El Niño” que se pronostica ocurrirá de nuevo este verano y en otoño. La disminución en las temperaturas del océano Atlántico también impedirán la formación de tormentas. Humane Society Pets of the Week

Hati and Fiona a great pair. - Look at this giants! Hati and Fiona were left at the shelter because the owners left the Island and couldn´t take them. This is hard on an adult dogs, and that's why we encourage people to figure out a way to take their pets with them or to find them a home, it is diferent to have a stray in a shelter that to have a pet from his/her home to a shelter. Hati and Fiona are big and are available for adoption, she looks like a wolf and he looks like a bear! They are a bit dominant with other dogs and they don't like cats.

Madonna. - I really couldn't think of any other nme for her, look at those marks! her arm with black legging and white glove, her black nose and white eyebrows! And she was brought in as a TNR (trap, neuter, release) by a local singer, so, there you go: Madonna. Very nice cat looking for a home.

Saturday, Caturday! at 9 a.m. we will be inside Mega on the ground floor with some adorable little kittens that will be ready for adoption in the next weeks. If you can spare some time to help us promote, adopt, meet us, drop by and lend a paw.

Las Mascotas de la Semana de la Sociedad Humanitaria

Hati y Fiona una gran pareja. - Miren estos gigantes! Hati y Fiona llegaron al refugio porque sus dueños se fueron de l Isla y no se los pudieron llevar. Esto es dificil en perros adultos, por eso pedimos a las personas que encunetren la manera de llevarse a sus mascotas o que les encuentren un hogar, es distnto tener un perro de la calle al efugio a uno de su hogar al refugio. Hati y Fiona son grandes y estan listos para la dopción, ella parece lobo y él parece un oso! Son un poco dominantes con otrs perros y no les gustan los gatos.

Madonna - Realmente no pude pensar en otro nombre para ella, miren esas marcas! su brazo con el "calentador" negro y el guante blanco, su nariz negra y la cejas blancas!  Y fue traida al refugio como un gato TNR (atrapa, esteriliza y libera) por una cantante local, asi que, ahí lo tienen: Madonna. Muy inda gata en busca de un hogar.

 Sabado de gatos! a las 9 a.m. dentro del MEGA, con adorables gatitos que estarán para adopción en las próxima semanas. Si pueden vengan a ayudarnos a promoverlos, a adoptarlos, a conocernos :) dennos una mano.
