Mexican Soap Opera "Amores Verdaderos" Filmed in Cozumel

Last week Cozumel’s ecological park, Punta Sur, served as the backdrop for two episodes of “Amores Verdaderos,” a popular national soap opera.  Nearly 70 people, including actors and production crew arrived on the island last Sunday.  Two episodes were taped, including downtown scenes of the island, as well as Punta Sur.  For more information on the show, check out their official webpage.

La telenovela mexicana "Amores Verdaderos" se filmó en Cozumel

La semana pasada el parque ecológico Punta Sur de Cozumel fue escenario de dos episodios de "Amores Verdaderos", popular telenovela nacional. Cerca de 70 personas, entre actores y equipo de producción llegaron a la isla el domingo pasado. Se grabaron dos episodios, incluyendo escenas del centro de la isla, así como de Punta Sur. Paul Mila Releases 4th Book in Cozumel Adventure Series

Author Paul Mila, has just released his new book, Near Miss, on Amazon. This is Mila’s 4th book in his Cozumel-based adventure series. Not only do  hero Cozumel-resident dive instructors  Terry and Joe return, but the cast of characters features some well known local residents, including Fulvio, Jaime, Cozumel Kelly and her dog Pirata, and even Kathy from La Cocay.  Best of all, since Paul owns a condo here, and spends a fair amount of time on the island, all four books are loaded with colorful Cozumel personalities and scenery.

In addition, to this series, Paul has also written books on underwater photography, and is the author of the monthly “Sea-Gram,” a newsletter, pertaining to all things  ocean and scuba.  you can check out the details on the milabooks.com website.

Paul Mila publica su 4º libro sobre la Serie de Aventuras en Cozumel

El autor Paul Mila recién lanzó en Amazon su libro nuevo, Near Miss. Este es el cuarto libro de Mila sobre su serie de aventuras basadas en Cozumel. No sólo regresan los héroes residentes e instructores de buceo Terry y Joe, sino que también el reparto de personajes incluye a algunos habitantes locales bien conocidos, entre ellos Fulvio, Jaime, Kelly Cozumel, su perro, Pirata, y hasta Kathy, de La Cocay. Lo mejor de todo, ya que Paul tiene un condominio aquí y  pasa una buena cantidad de tiempo en la Isla; los cuatro libros están repletos de coloridas personalidades en Cozumel y su escenario.

Además de esta serie, Paul también ha escrito libros sobre fotografía submarina y es autor de la publicación mensual "Sea-Gram", un boletín de noticias acerca de todo lo que tenga que ver con el océano y  el buceo. Echen un vistazo a los detalles en el sitio web milabooks.com.

Diveheart Comes To Cozumel

Diveheart, a non-profit foundation dedicated to building confidence to individuals with disabilities through scuba will be conducting adaptive training on Cozumel, from December 1 – 8.  Diveheart President Jim Elliott will be in attendance.  For more information on this great organization, check out their webpage.

Luxury Yacht "Tatoosh" Calls into Cozumel

Last weekend the mega-yacht, “Tatoosh,” called into Cozumel.  The 303 foot, luxury vessel is owned by Paul G. Allen of Microsoft fame.  Currently ranked as the world’s 38th largest super yacht, the “Tatoosh”  features 5 decks, a movie theatre, space to transport two helicopters and custom 40 ft.  power  and sailboats.  She’s actually been for sale since 2010, with an asking price of 162 million dollars.  For more information, including a virtual tour, check out this page.

El fin de semana pasado, el mega-yate “Tatoosh” llegó a Cozumel. De aproximadamente 92.354 mts de eslora el barco de lujo es propiedad de Paul G. Allen, famoso en Microsoft. Clasificado a la fecha como el 38º super-yate más grande en el mundo, el "Tatoosh" cuenta con 5 cubiertas, cine, espacio para transportar dos helicópteros, veleros Ha estado a la venta desde el año 2010, por un precio inicial de 162 millones de dólares. Humane Society Pets of the Week

Osa is such a sweet dog, just over a year old. Her owner did not want her anymore. Said she fought with his other dog over food. Our outreach personal tried to convince him this could be worked through. But the owner was adamant to leave her behind. Osa was terrified at the shelter and not doing well at all. She is now in foster care with Olivia Withington director of the HSCI. She is doing very well and does not display the reported food aggressions at all. Sometimes there is the odd squabble over a toy, but the dogs sort it out themselves. She is so much better and completely out of her shell. She likes to dance a lot. She approaches Olivia and offers her front paws and they will dance for many minutes at a time. She also has a very cute voice, she does sound like a bear!!! Much like Yogi the bear..ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. If you would like to meet Osa please contact us and Olivia would be happy to meet with you!

Manx, is an adorable little male grey tabby cat with beautiful bengal markings. He is 3 months old and was rescued with his sibling and fostered initially for 2 weeks by the rescuer. Manx is not a happy camper in the nursery, he really would like to go to a permanent home or a foster home. He cries and cries for attention. We just know the minute he has a home of his own, the crying will stop. Please let us know if you can help out Manx!

Las Mascotas de la Semana de la Sociedad Humanitaria

Osa es una perra muy dulce, tiene poco más de un año de edad. Su dueño ya no la quería. Dijo que se peleo con su otro perro por la comida. Nuestro personal trató de convencerlo de que esto podría arreglarse. Sin embargo, el propietario se mostró inflexible a que se quedara. Osa estaba aterrorizada en el refugio y no estaba nada bien. Ahora está bajo los cuidados de Olivia Withington, Directora de la Sociedad Humanitaria. Ya está bien y no muestra ninguna de las agresiones reportadas a alimentos. A veces hay una extraña disputa por un juguete, pero los mismos perros lo resuelven. Esta mucho mejor y completamente fuera de su coraza. Le gusta bailar mucho. Se acerca a Olivia y le ofrece sus patas delanteras y bailan cada vez durante muchos minutos. ¡También tiene una voz muy linda, que suena como un oso! Al igual que el oso Yogi … ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. ¡Si usted desea conocer a Osa por favor póngase en contacto con nosotros y Olivia estará feliz de conocerle!

Manx es un adorable gato macho gris atigrado, con hermosas marcas como tigre de Bengala. Tiene 3 meses de edad y fue rescatado con su hermano y atendido inicialmente durante 2 semanas por quien lo rescato. Manx no es feliz en la guardería, lo que realmente le gustaría es ir a un hogar permanente, o un hogar de crianza temporal. Llora y llora para que le pongan atención. Sabemos que en el momento que tenga una vivienda propia, se detendrá el llanto. ¡Por favor, déjenos saber si pueden ayudar a Manx!

Santa Claus is Coming to Cozumel

For the last 20 years, Capn Ron, owner of Scuba Shack in Oklahoma City, has been coming to Cozumel to spread Christmas cheer.  The Santa Claus look-alike supports various worthy causes on the island including the C.A.M. school.  He also plays Santa for Kelley’s Sports Bar annual Christmas party for underprivileged children.   Island residents and visitors donate money and gifts so that each attendee receives a Christmas meal, a toy and a new pair of shoes.  The party this year is on the 21st of December at 2:00 at Kelley’s, located just north of the downtown zocalo.   

When not underwater, Capn Ron and his elves visit parties at La Hatch, Wet Wendy’s and Papa Hogs, where he’s dove for the last 20 years.  If you have a worthy cause, and would like Santa, Mrs. Claus and the merry elves to make the party a little brighter, contact Margaret at Papa Hogs.  Capn Ron will be on island from December 13 – 23rd.

Santa Claus viene a Cozumel

Durante los últimos 20 años el Capitán Ron, propietario de Scuba Shack en la Ciudad de Oklahoma, ha estado viniendo a Cozumel para repartir la alegría navideña. Se viste de Santa Claus para apoyar diversas causas en la Isla, incluyendo la escuela C.A.M. También le hace al Santa Claus en la fiesta anual de navidad en Kelley’s Sports Bar para los niños de escasos recursos. Residentes de la Isla y visitantes donan dinero y regalos con el fin de que cada asistente reciba una comida de Navidad, un juguete y un par de zapatos. La fiesta de este año será el 21 de diciembre a las 2:00 p.m. en Kelley’s, ubicada tan solo al norte del Zócalo del Centro.

Cuando no se encuentra bajo el agua, el Capitán Ron y sus elfos visitan los festejos en La Hatch, Wet Wendy’s y Papa Hogs, donde ha buceado durante los últimos 20 años. Si tiene usted una buena causa y le gustaría que Santa, la Sra. Claus y los alegres elfos hagan que la fiesta brille un moco más, pónganse en contacto con Margaret en Papa Hogs. El Capitán Ron estará en la Isla de Diciembre 13 al 23.
