Quintana Roo Switches to 911 As Emergency Number In April

The State Director of Public Security has recently announced that starting in April all emergency calls will be received by dialing 911.  Quintana Roo is one of eight states that have been selected to participate in the new trial system, where all emergency responder services will be accessible through the 911 number.

The 911 system originated in the United States and has since been spread throughout many different parts of the world.  Although the telephone number has changed the actual C-4 routing emergency system in each municipality, such as Cozumel, will remain operational.  The current emergency number for Cozumel is 066.

En Abril, el estado de Quintana Roo cambia el número de emergencias al 911

En fechas recientes el Director de Seguridad Pública anuncio que a partir del mes de abril, todas las llamadas de emergencia se recibirán marcando 911. EL estado de Quintana Roo es uno de los ocho estados elegidos para participar en este nuevo sistema que estará a prueba, donde los servicios de respuesta de emergencias estarán disponibles a través del número 911.

El sistema se originó en los Estados Unidos y desde entonces se ha diseminado en muchos sitios en el mundo. A pesar de que el número ha cambiado, el número del C-4 para atender emergencias en cada municipio, tal como en Cozumel, continuará operando. El numero actual de emergencias para Cozumel es el 066.

Temporary Change to Waste Collection Schedule

The solid waste collection company, PASA, has informed of the temporary modification for waste collection during the first semester of this year (January to June) as follows:
Adolfo López Mateos, Andrés Quintana Roo, Colonos Cuzamil, San Miguel I, Flamingos, CTM, Ampliación CTM, Taxistas, Zona Industrial and  Huertos Familiares, 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
10 de Abril, Flores Magón 1 and 2, Emiliano Zapata, Altamar, Miraflores, Nueva Generación and Félix González Canto, Tuesday, Thursday starting at
1:00 p.m.

Downtown, tourist areas and main avenues, will be collected at night. For more information, check out this link.

Cambio Temnporal para Recolección de Residuos Sólidos

La empresa dedicada a la recoleccion de residuos sólidos, PASA, ha informado la modificacion temporal de recoleccion de basura para el primer semestre de este año (Enero-Junio) siendo el siguiente:
  Adolfo López Mateos, Andrés Quintana Roo, Colonos Cuzamil, San Miguel I, Flamingos, CTM, Ampliación CTM, Taxistas, Zona Industrial y Huertos Familiares,  entre las 13 a 22 horas los días lunes, miércoles y viernes.
10 de Abril, Flores Magón 1 y 2, Emiliano Zapata, Altamar, Miraflores, Nueva Generación y Félix González Canto,  los días martes, jueves y sábado a partir de las 13 horas.

Humane Society Pets of the Week

Clarita – Female dog,  5 months old , weight 11 kg. Arrived on Dec-24-15. She showed up at a home in Colonia San Gervasio here in Cozumel. She spent at least 5 days with the family who lives there but because they didn’t have space they had to leave her at the HSCI Shelter.  She is super playful and active.

Romulo – Male kitten, 3 months old, weight 1.2 kg. Arrived on Dec-27-15. He and his 2 siblings   were abandoned in our new vet tech, Justin’s patio one morning. He brought them in  because they were starving and had parasites. Now they are healthy and safe and play all day long in their cattery. They are super curious.

Las Mascotas de la Semana de la Sociedad Humanitaria

Clarita – perrita de 5 meses de edad, con un peso de 11 kg. Llegó el 24 de diciembre pasado. Apareció en una casa en la colonia San Gervasio aquí en Cozumel. Permaneció al menos 5 días con las familia que ahí vive; sin embargo, como carecen de espacio suficiente les fue necesario dejarla en el albergue de la Sociedad Humanitaria. Es sumamente juguetona y activa.

Rómulo – gatito de 3 meses, con un peso de 1.2 kg. Llegó el 27 de diciembre pasado. Tanto él como sus dos hermanos fueron abandonados una mañana en el patio de Justin, nuestro nuevo técnico veterinario. Justin los trajo al albergue pues estaban hambrientos y tenían parásitos. Ahora están sanos, seguros y juegan todo el día en  el criadero de gatos. Son súper curiosos.

Estos y muchos animalitos mas te esperan en el refugio, recuerda visitarnos para conocerlos, uno nunca sabe, podrías encontrar a un compañero muy especial. Para obtener más información póngase en contacto con pets@humanecozumel.org.

Justin Bieber Asked to Leave Tulum Ruins Due to Rules Violations

Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber was recently asked to leave the archeological site of Tulum for reportedly attempting to climb on or within the roped off ruins.   Multiple media sources are reporting that an anonymous representative from the National Institute of Anthropology and History is reporting that Bieber, and his entourage of at least six arrived late in the afternoon last week, and according to the source, did not comply with the rules regarding restricted areas. 

The party was reportedly escorted off property by custodians.  No charges were pressed and the police were not involved.

Se pidió a Justin Bieber salir de los templos arqueológicos en Tulúm por violar las normas

Hace poco se pidió al cantante popular canadiense, Justin Bieber, que abandonara el sitio arqueológico de Tulum pues intentó subir a o pasar dentro de la zona acordonada de los templos. Diversos medios reportan que un representante anónimo del Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia informó que la semana pasada Bieber y su séquito de seis, llegaron al sitio durante las ultimas horas de la tarde y según la fuente, no cumplieron con las normas respecto a las áreas restringidas. 

Según se informa, el grupo fue conducido fuera de la zona por los guardias del sitio. No se presentaron cargos y la policía no estuvo implicada.

Local 707 Restaurant Grand Opening Set for January 19

Kristina Rodriguez, co-creator of the famed Cha Cha’s Kitchen has announced the opening for her new restaurant, Local 707 set for Tuesday January 19.  Local 707’s hours will be 5 – 10pm Tuesdays – Saturdays. 

Local 707, is located on 5 Avenida Sur between Calles 7 and 9 Sur, situated in Mi Casa en Cozumel Hotel, and is an intimate 16-seat dining experience, designed by Architect Henri Domville.

The natural, open air Caribbean studio space features art by local artists Vianney Vivas and Isabel Nunez.  The white wall, natural wood and open kitchen serve as a canvas for  hand crafted small plates, main dishes and desserts. Kristina  has worked to create the same comfortable feeling as sitting at the bar area in Cha Cha’s Kitchen.  The small select menu is Mexican American with vegan and vegetarian influence. There will also be  seasonal specials using the freshest ingredients available in this tropical island.

The opening menu can be found here, but be sure and follow Locale 707 on Facebook or Instagram to stay apprised of creative menu changes and amusements. The Patio, featuring custom Cakes and Special Desserts, is overseen by Kathy Watts, the other co-founder of Cha Cha’s kitchen.

Gran inauguración del restaurante Local 707 el 19 de enero

La cofundadora de Cha Cha’s Kitchen, Kristina Rodríguez, ha anunciado que la apertura de su nuevo restaurante, Local 707, será el martes 19 de enero. El horario será de 5 a 10 p.m., los días martes a sábado. 

Local 707 se localiza en 5ª. Avenida Sur entre calles 7 y 9 sur en el hotel Mi Casa en Cozumel. Es una experiencia íntima, de 16 mesas, diseñada por Arq. Henri Domville.

El espacio natural, abierto al aire libre del Caribe, con obras de artistas local Vianney Vivas y Isabel Nunez; el muro blanco, madera natural y cocina abierta, sirven como lienzo para sus pequeños platillos artesanales, platillos principales y postres. Kiristina ha creado el mismo entorno de comodidad que el área de bar en Cha Cha’s Kitchen. El selecto menú es México-estadounidense, con influencia vegana y vegetariana. También tendrán especiales de temporada usando los ingredientes más frescos y disponibles en esta isla tropical. 

Aquí pueden encontrar el menú inicial, pero asegúrense de seguir a Local 707 en Facebook o Instagram y manténganse informados de los cambios creativos y divertidos del menú. El Patio, con pasteles y postres especiales es supervisado por Kathy Watts, la otra cofundadora de Cha Cha’s Kitchen.

Fly Cozumel Photo Contest Flight Scheduled for Sunday January 17th

This Sunday, four of the island’s talented photographers will be flying around the island for the 1st Cozumel Aerial Photo Contest.  Tati Biermas, Flow Serafti, Fred Boehm and wildcard winner Mike Revier will fly, for free, on Fly Cozumel’s new tour plane. 

Each photographer  will submit their favorite photo, and the entire Cozumel 4 You Group – both the Facebook group members and the NEWS readers – will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite!

Este próximo domingo cuatro talentosos fotógrafos de la isla sobrevolaran la Isla para la Primera Competencia de Fotografía Aérea: Tati Biermas, Flow Serafti, Fred Boehm y el ganador comodín, Mike Revier, volarán gratuitamente en el nuevo avión de excursiones de Fly Cozumel.

Cada fotógrafo entregará su fotografía favorita y todo el grupo de Cozumel 4 You , tanto el grupo de Facebook como los lectores de las NOTICIAS , tendrán la oportunidad de votar por su favorito.
