Cozumel’s 6th Annual Ford Ironman This Sunday

This Sunday marks the 6th year of the official Ford Ironman Cozumel.  Two thousand nine hundred athletes and their supporters from all over the world will arrive in Cozumel for this event.  The elite race start is at 6:40 am with the regular start at 7 am at Chankanaab National Park.    The entire downtown waterfront will be closed off so spectators can cheer on the competitors, including many local athletes.  
Additionally, the 4rd  annual “Panties/ Pajama Run” on Friday, November 28th at 6 pm starting at Punta Langosta.

Este próximo domingo tendrá lugar el 6º Ford Ironman

El domingo de esta semana marca el 6º año de Ford Ironman Cozumel oficial. Para este evento llegarán a Cozumel dos mil novecientos atletas procedentes de todo el mundo, así como sus seguidores. La carrera élite comienza a las 6:40 a.m. y el inicio normal es a las 7 a.m. en el parque nacional Chankanaab. La totalidad del malecón estará cerrado con el objeto de que los espectadores puedan animar a los competidores y a muchos de los atletas locales.

Además el viernes 28 de noviembre a las 6 p.m. arrancará en Punta Langosta la 4ª Carrera Anual “Panties/Pijamas”.

Cozumel’s Southern Hotel Zone to Have Firehouse Substation

According to officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (SINTRA) construction has begun on a Firehouse Substation in Cozumel’s southern hotel zone.  The new building, which is covered under funds raised by the Quintana Roo State government, will be located on Claudio Canto Avenue, near two of the cruise ship piers. 

The new substation will have reception, a communications/command center, kitchens, dormitory, and parking.  The new facility should be completed in early 2015.

La zona hotelera sur contará con una subestación de bomberos

De acuerdo a información de autoridades de la Secretaría de Infraestructura y Transporte (SINTRA) en breve iniciará la construcción de una subestación de bomberos en la zona hotelera sur. La nueva instalación, cuyo costo lo cubren fondos recaudados por el gobierno del estado, se ubicará en la Avenida Claudio Canto, cerca de los dos muelles de buques turísticos.

La nueva subestación contará con una recepción, un centro de comunicaciones/mando, cocinas, dormitorio y estacionamiento. La edificación de la nueva instalación debe concluir a comienzos del año 2015.

An Angel who’s Hero is Spiderman

This tough little guy has not stopped smiling, even though he has to wear a mask when outside the home/hospital and his beautiful mane of hair has started to fall out. His name is Angel Eduardo Martin Castellanos and he is the son of our friend and employee, Luis Martin Briceno. His favorite color is red and his all-time hero is Spider Man.

Angel just turned 4 on September 24th and his birthday celebration took place at the IMMS UMAE T1 Hospital in Merida where he was receiving weekly Chemotherapy Treatments for Acute Leukemia since early September.  Last week he came home, but after spending a few days at home in Cozumel, Angel and his mom left again on November 25th for Merida, where he will be admitted in the Hospital to get another round of chemo. 

Needless to say, this has placed a hardship on the family.

Un Ángel cuyo héroe es el Hombre Araña

Este fuerte chico no ha dejado de sonreír, a pesar de que debe utilizar una mascara fuera de casa/hospital, y que ha comenzado a perder el cabello. Su nombre es Ángel Eduardo Martin Castellanos, hijo de nuestro amigo y empleado Luis Martín Briceño. Su color favorito es el rojo y desde siempre su héroe ha sido el Hombre Araña.

El 24 de septiembre Ángel cumplió 4 años, celebrando su fiesta en el hospital IMMS IMAE T1 en Mérida donde a principios del mes de septiembre inicio con tratamientos semanales de quimioterapia debido a la leucemia aguda que padece. La semana pasada regreso a casa, sin embargo después de unos días de permanece en Cozumel, Ángel y su mamá retornaron a Mérida el 25 de noviembre donde fue admitido en el hospital para otra ronda de quimioterapia.

Sobra decir que esto ha creado dificultades a la familia.

Humane Society Pets of the Week

Maya, female 5 months old, weight 6.4 kg. He was found by one of our staff tied to a pole outside of Sam's club with a wound on one leg, possibly a dog bite. Initially shy and reclusive that was solved quickly with treats and is more and more social everyday.

Caspian, Male 4 months old. Caspian and Shirley were adopted when they were small this last June. Well apparently the adopter dropped them off and everybody was busy, she dumped them and ran without filling surrender forms. It will be much harder to find them homes now as they become teenagers. We hope for a second chance soon!

Las Mascotas de la Semana de la Sociedad Humanitaria

Maya , hembra 5 meses de edad , pesa 6,4 kg . Élla fue encontrada por un miembro del Staff atada a un poste fuera de Sam´s con una herida en una pierna , posiblemente, una mordedura de perro . Comenzó siendo muy timida pero rápidamente nos fuimos ganando su cariño.Ella quiere un hogar y que la amen mucho.

Caspian, macho de 4 meses de edad. Él y Shirley Temple fueron adoptados de pequeñitos en junio, pero su adoptante los dejó en el refugio y se fue sin llenar los papeles correspondientes. Será muy difícil encontrarles hogar ahora que ya son adolescentes. Esperamos que les den otra oportunidad de nuevo.

Estos y muchos animalitos mas te esperan en el refugio, recuerda visitarnos para conocerlos, uno nunca sabe, podrías encontrar a un compañero muy especial. Para obtener más información póngase en contacto con pets@humanecozumel.org.

Centro de Atencion Mutiple (CAM) Cozumel Creating Garden: How You Can Help

Children from the Centro de Atencion Mutiple are in the process of creating a garden. They’re starting from the very beginning, and literally have nothing.  As a result they’re looking for tools, rakes, shovels, bags of soil and fertilizer to help the children plant a few seeds and watch them grow. This is a great educational opportunity for the students and a great way for you to directly help residents here on the island.

The Centro de Atencion Mutiple is a special education school for children with a wide variety of both physical and mental challenges.  They currently have over 80 children between the ages of 3 months – to 13 years old.  CAM  is located on the western side of the DIF park on 45th Avenue. It's a dead end street between 3rd and 5th streets, so it’s easy to locate.

El Centro de Atención Múltiple (CAM) está en proceso de crear un jardín; de qué manera pueden ustedes ayudars

Los niños del Centro de Atención Múltiple están creando un jardín y están comenzando literalmente sin nada. Como resultado necesitan herramientas, rastrillos, palas, bolsas de tierra y fertilizantes para que los menores comiencen a plantar algunas semillas y las vean crecer. Esta es una gran oportunidad educativa para los estudiantes y una excelente en la que puede ayudar directamente a los habitantes de la Isla.

El Centro de Atención Múltiple es una escuela de educación especial para chicos con una amplia variedad de retos físicos así como mentales. Actualmente hay 80 niños con edades de 3 meses hasta 13 años. CAM se ubica en el extremo occidental del parque DIF sobre la Avenida 45. Es una calle cerrada, localizada entre las calles 3 y 5 por lo que es fácil de ubicar.
