Oceanman Cozumel Cancels August Competition

Oceanman Cozumel, which was slated to take place in August, was recently cancelled by the event’s organizers, citing the inability to guarantee the health of the competitors due to the CoVID-10 health emergency.

This would have been the 5^th year of a highly anticipated event, that serves as an economic boon to the island, since there were over 1000 registered participants.

A representative from the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotional Council stated in a recent press conference that this is currently the only sports event currently cancelled due to the pandemic,  however, if the health emergency worsens, there is a rish that the Ironman and Grand Fondo New York Triathlons could postphone until 2021 as well.

“It is too early to determine whether or not these events will take place, but the managers have had virtual conferences so that each of the organizers and athletes can be certain that they are working to adapt to the new normality that the coronavirus in the world.”

En fechas recientes los organizadores de la competencia Oceanman Cozumel prevista a llevarse a cabo en agosto procedieron a su cancelación, citando la imposibilidad de garantizar la salud de los competidores debido a la emergencia sanitaria producida por el COVID-19 .

Este hubiera sido el 5º año del tan esperado evento que hubiera sido gran ayuda económica para la Isla puesto que ya se contaba con 1000

participantes registrados.

En una conferencia de prensa reciente, un representante del Consejo de Promoción Turística de Quintana Roo declaró que actualmente este es el único evento deportivo que ha sido cancelado debido a la pandemia; sin embargo, si la emergencia de salud se agrava, existe el riego de que los triatlones Ironman y Gran Fondo de Nueva York también se pospongan hasta el 2021.

“Aún es muy pronto determinar si estos eventos se realizaran o no, y los directivos han realizado conferencias virtuales con cada uno de los organizadores y de los atletas para que puedan tener la certeza de que están trabajando para adaptarse a la nueva normalidad mundial debido al coronavirus”.
