Cozumel was lucky enough to be one of the locations for “Velas LatinoAmérica 2018 series” earlier this week – meaning that from August 21 – 23rd seven tall ships visited the island.

Although the ships started to call into port as early as Sunday, the official “visit” started at 9 am on Tuesday the 21st with a boat parade, which made it’s way from the northern hotel zone south toward Puerta Maya.

International Pier and Punta Langosta allowed island residents to tour the tall ships on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday at 4 pm the winners of the Cozumel 4 You/Fly Cozumel “Good Citizen” contest were able to see the see the ships from a unique

birds-eye view on one of the Fly Cozumel tours.

After leaving Cozumel, many of the Tall Ships will carry on to Vera Cruz, Mexico.

The “Velas LatinoAmerica 2018”  is a unique opportunity for the general public to see and visit many tall ships.  All in all 12 ships have registered to be part of the series, and eight have confirmed their attendance in Cozumel.  Of special note: the tall ship, “Cuauhtémoc,”   operated by the Mexican Navy, will be on hand to host this historic event.
