Cozumel's Clock Tower: a Historical Emblem for the Bi-Centennial
The clocktower in Parque Benito Juarez, (the downtown plaza), has long been a Cozumel landmark, in fact, it’s a popular meeting point for locals and tourists alike. With the Bi-Centennial Independence celebration rapidly approaching, much needed renovations are being planned for the historic timepiece, who will actually be celebrating it’s 100th birthday on Independence Day.
The clocktower was inaugurated on September 15th, 1910, and installation was completed a year later. The next time you’re downtown, be sure and check out the clock’s faces and you’ll see that some of them are actually in mayan!
La torre con el reloj en el Parque Benito Juárez, ha sido durante mucho tiempo un sitio conocido de Cozumel, en realidad, es un punto de encuentro popular para locales y turistas. Con la celebración del Bi-centenario de la independencia se están planificando renovaciones rápidamente tan necesarias para el reloj histórico, que celebrara su cumpleaños número 100 en el día de la independencia.
La torre fue inaugurada el 15 de septiembre de 1910, y la instalación se completó un año más tarde. La próxima vez que usted este en centro de la ciudad, cheque que las horas del reloj están, actualmente con números mayas!
   
Prime Minister of Grand Cayman Visits Cozumel
Grand Cayman’s Prime Minister, W. McKeewa Bush, sailed into Cozumel last week aboard the” “Oasis of the Seas” last week, on a fact gathering mission. Cozumel is generally considered to be the number one cruise port in the Caribbean in terms of infrastructure and organization for cruise ships and their passengers. Cruise Ships visiting Grand Cayman have to use a tender service to disembark their passengers, which is expensive, time consuming and inefficient. While here on the island, Prime Minister Bush toured Cozumel’s piers, and ports, meeting with the Undersecretary of Tourism, and Director de API QRoo
El Primer Ministro del Gran Caimán, W. McKeewa Bush, navegó hacia Cozumel la semana pasada a bordo de la crucero "Oasis of the Seas" la semana pasada, para tener una reunión en Cozumel, que es considerado el puerto número uno en el Caribe en términos de infraestructura y organización para cruceros. Cozumel Joins the "Salutation Nation" - August 7th
On August 7th from 9 – 10 am, thousands of people across North America participate in the “Salutation Nation” and practice yoga outside to move, breathe, and connect with their communities. Across the continent, mats will roll out onto grass, sand, and pavement as part of this incredible outdoor yoga experience, free of charge. Here in Cozumel, Power Yoga Cozumel has organized a complimentary yoga class for people of different ages, and athletic abilities to spend one hour together with friends, teachers, neighbors, and perfect strangers connecting, being present, and most importantly having fun! “Salutation Nation” in Cozumel will take place at Parque Quintana Roo (which is in front of the Palacio Municipal) in the open air theatre. Humane Society "Pets of the Week" Henry Juan - by Monica Velasco
This is a picture that we would love to see repeated in every neighborhood: a local child, happy to be surrounded by puppies, enjoying the healthy connection that naturally occurs among them. This boy is not one of those kids who are told that dogs are dirty and should not be touched, which unfortunately is not uncommon here. He is aware that they need attention and care because that is precisely what he went to do to the shelter, to help walk dogs, bathe them, pet cats, etc. He also was curious and learned a lot. And did he have questions! “Why do some dogs here only have three legs?” Lovely boy, with such a fresh smile and beautiful eyes. We asked his name and he said: “My name is Henry, but call me Juan”.

Esta es una imágen que nos gustaría ver en cada colonia de la Isla: un niño local, contento de estar rodeado de cachorrors, disfrutando de la sana conección natural que ocurre entre ellos. Este chico no uno al que le han enseñado que los perros son sucios y no se tocan, como desafortunadamente sucede a veces. Y está conciente de que necesitan cuidados, ya que es precisamente los que fue a hacer al refugio. El y sus hermanos ayudaron a caminar perros, bañarlos, jugaron con los gatos, etc. Tenía también mucha curiosidad, ¡y muchas preguntas! “¿Por qué aquí hay perros que tienen tres patas?” Lindo niño, con esa sonrisa fresca y hermosos ojos. Le preguntamos su nombre y dijo: “Me llamo Henry, pero me dicen Juan.”

Still Worried About Safety in Mexico? Here's Another Theory....
In an article entitled “ The New Global Economic Reality,” author Charles Simpson, uses facts and statistics to create a solid argument as to the safety in most areas of Mexico. Simpson also goes on to discuss the stability of the Mexican economy, and even proposes that certain factions of the US media may be over exaggerating the situation. The article makes an interesting argument and is worth the read.

Simpson también se encuentra para discutir la estabilidad de la economía mexicana y propone incluso que pueden ser de ciertas manera de los medios de comunicación de EEU. sobre exagerando la situación. Swimming With the Whale Sharks; an Amazing Day Trip - by Ashley Duquette
Known for the spotted whale sharks, Holbox Island is in the height of it’s’ tourist season, which takes place July – August . Although nearly a 4 hour trip from Cozumel, it’s worth the trip since Whale Sharks are at least 20ft long with close to a 2ft wide mouth! Isla Holbox has a population of only 1,500 people, and golf carts are the main form of island transport. To see the whale sharks you’ll need to take a boat trip, with the destination changing day to day, depending on where the plankton are, since that’s what whale sharks eat. There is plenty to see along the way, including dolphins, manta rays and even some flying fish. On the way back from snorkeling with these amazing creatures, see if your guide will take you through the mangroves to spot flamingoes or stop at Isla de Pajaros “island of the birds,” where no human is allowed other than the lookout tower.
There are many places to stay on the island ranging from hostels to more upscale beach hotels. If you have your Whale Shark tour planned for the following day take advantage of other snorkeling spots, unique shopping and great seafood. Make sure when you’re hungry to try the lobster pizza at the small restaurant on the main road leading to the far side beach. To reach Holbox from Cozumel: take the ferry to Playa del Carmen, arrange for transport or catch a bus to Chiquila, towards the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula (about 2 hours) and lastly jump on the ferry to Holbox Island. Es conocido por los tiburones ballena, la isla de Holbox es una excelente ' temporada turística, que se celebra de julio a agosto. Aunque casi es un viaje de 4 horas de Cozumel, vale el viaje ya que los tiburones ballena son por lo menos 20 pies de largo con cerca a una boca ancha de 2 pies! La Isla Holbox tiene una población de sólo 1.500 personas y carritos de golf son la forma principal de transporte de la isla. Para ver los tiburones ballena necesitará tomar un viaje en barco, con el destino que se cambia día a día, dependiendo de donde se encuentra el plancton, ya que es lo que comen los tiburones ballena. Hay mucho para ver en el camino, incluyendo delfines, mantarayas e incluso algunos peces voladores. En el camino de regreso de snorkel con estas criaturas sorprendentes, consulte si su guía le guiará a través de los manglares para ver a los flamingos o hacer parada en la "isla de los pájaros," donde no está permitido ningún humano distinto al de la torre de vigía.
