Peace Boat Returns
Cozumel is getting ready for the return of the “Zamna” peace boat, which is scheduled to arrive here, on island, January 8th, after passing through ports in the United States and Europe. City officials are planning a large celebration to mark the event, including guest appearances by Mexican TV stars, Leon Michel and Rosalia. Also on hand, will be many city and state officials to mark this historic event, hosted by Juan Carlos Gonzalez, Cozumel’s mayor. The celebration will start at the downtown pier, or muelle fiscal, and continue on to the Quintana Roo park, where a commemorative concert will take place.
During it’s lengthy voyage, the “Zamna” called into the ports of: Miami, New York, Santander, San Vicente of the Barquera, Baiona, Palos de la Frontera, Cadiz, Valencia, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Ostia and Pireo.
Cozumel está preparando para el regreso del barco de paz “Zamna”, que se programa para llegar aquí, a la isla, el 8 de enero, después de pasar a través de puertos en los Estados Unidos y la Europa. Las autoridades municipales están planeando una celebración grande para marcar el acontecimiento, incluyendo apariciones especiales por las estrellas de la TV, Leon Miguel y Rosalia. Police Plan to be Extra Vigilant New Years
Throughout the 24th and the 25th of December, Cozumel Police awarded drivers 63 “faltas administrativas,” or tickets, as well as provided assistance at 5 accidents, one of which was even fatal.
The Sub-Director of Public Security and Transit claims that most of these accidents were the direct results of drinking and driving, and, as a result, City officials are going on record stating they are going to be extra vigilant during the New Year, including check points at various locations. One point which will be especially watched, is the transversal road, toward the eastern side of the island, since it’s long been a Cozumel tradition to see the first sunrise of the New Year from that side of the island. Other check points include Puerta Maya and Mescalitos.

A través del 24 y el 25 de diciembre, la Policía de Cozumel concedió a los conductores 63 faltas administrativas, y ayuda en 5 accidentes, uno cuyo era incluso fatal.

Park Recuperations a 2010 Priority
The Director of Public Works here in Cozumel has announced that in 2010 our public parks will be a top priority. Cozumel currently has 54 public parks, with plans to add 2 more in 2010. Current pubic parks will get a facelift including painting, lighting systems, gardening, and new sandboxes. Our public parks have long been a center for healthy relaxation, and although municipal funds are small, the needs of the community are clear.
One of the new, planned parks for 2010 will have a Boeing airplane fuselage with a cockpit and instrument panels that children can play with, so they can learn as well as have fun.
El Director de Obras Públicas aquí en Cozumel ha anunciado que en 2010 nuestros parques públicos serán una principal prioridad. Cozumel tiene actualmente 54 parques públicos, con planes para agregar 2 más en 2010. Los parques púbicos actuales conseguirán renovaciones incluyendo nueva pintura, sistemas de iluminación, nueva plantas, y nuevas areneros. Nuestros parques públicos han sido de largo un centro para la relajación sana, y aunque los fondos municipales sean pequeños, las necesidades de la comunidad están claras.
Uno de los parques nuevos, previstos para 2010 tendrá un fuselaje del aeroplano de Boeing con un centro de mando y los tableros de instrumentos con los cuales los niños pueden jugar, así que pueden aprender, como tan bien divertirse.

Humane Society "Pets of the Week" Wiro & Brandy
Wiro is a 2 year old male, wire haired terrier mix. Wiro is an extremely loving, sweet dog and has been at the Humane Society since May 2009. He is great with people and other dogs and he is more than ready for his forever home. Wire haired breeds are great for minimal shedding of hair, due to this fact, they make great dogs for people with mild animal allergies. We are truly hoping for an adoption miracle in Wiro's case as he is currently our longest term dog at the Humane Society.
Brandy is a beautiful 3 month old female kitten, sweet, loving and purrs a lot when cuddled. She is a long hair tortoishell cat, quite rare here in Cozumel. You can find her at in the nursery at the Humane Society.
Spring is coming and we desperately need your help in trapping stray cats for neuter and release. Spring is a high time for kittens being born and every Spring the Humane Society becomes quickly overwhelmed with kittens being dropped off. And the cycle will repeat itself 4 to 5 months later if the parents of the kittens are not sterilized. This is becoming a very big problem in Cozumel and as a community we need to work hard on this. The Humane Society also needs cat traps donated. These must be bought from the States. The most Humane and effective traps, the most favored of all can be bought on line: Heart of the Earth Animal Equipment. The traps that are sufficient are the Light Duty Deluxe Cat trap.
Wiro es un varón de 2 años, mezcla del terri estilo con pelos de alambre. Wiro es un perro extremadamente cariñoso, dulce y ha estado en la Sociedad Humanitaria desde Mayo del 2009. Él es cariñoso con la gente y los otros perros y él es más listo en su hogar para siempre. Los perros con este tipo de pelo están perfectos para las personas que sufren de alergia, esto hace excelente para las personas que sufren alergias. Estamos esperando un milagro para la adopción de Wiro' un caso que actualmente está en la Sociedad Humanitaria.
Brandy es una gatita de 3 meses hermosa, dulce, llena de amor y ronronea cuando ella esta abrazada. Ella es una gata de pelo largo marcado con un estilo cascara de tortuga, absolutamente raro aquí en Cozumel. Usted puede encontrarla en el cuarto de bebes en la Sociedad Humanitaria.
La primavera está viniendo y necesitamos desesperadamente su ayuda para atrapar los gatos de la calle para esterilizar. La primavera es un período culminante para los gatitos que son llevados y cada primavera la Sociedad Humanitaria se llenan rápidamente con los gatitos abandonados y el ciclo se repetirá 4 a 5 meses más adelante si no esterilizan a los padres de los gatitos.
Esto se está convirtiendo en un problema muy grande en Cozumel y como una comunidad que necesitamos trabajar duro en esto. La Sociedad Humanitaria también necesita de las trampas de los gatos donadas. Éstos se deben comprar de los Estados Unidos. Las trampas son más eficaces, favorecido del todo se pueden comprar en línea: La marca del equipo es Heart of the Earth Animal Equipment. Las trampas que son suficientes son las trampas de lujo de poca potencia del gato.Light Duty Deluxe Cat trap.
 
Cozumel 4 You Happy Hour - El Hach
Cozumel 4 You’s next Friday Happy Hour will take place next Friday, January 8th at El Hach located right on ocean, across the street from Villa Blanca Hotel. El Hach has been a hangout to tourists and locals alike, since owners Sam and Alex opened their first bar across the street a few years back. Since then, they’ve expanded across the street and have become one of the places to go to for live music on weekends.
El Hach also offers a full menu, and to commemorate the occasion will be offering half price on their homemade Burgers in addition to 2 x 1 tropical drinks during Happy Hour, which is from 6 – 9 p.m. Live music will start at 10:30 p.m. for those who want to keep the party going.
Cozumel 4 You hosts a bi-weekly Friday happy hour at a different location Friday from 6 – 9 pm. If you have an idea for a happy hour or are interested in hosting one, please contact Laura.
Cozumel 4 You próxima hora feliz ocurrirá el próximo Viernes 8 de Enero en la Hach situada directamente sobre el mar, en frente del hotel Villa Blanca. La Hach ha sido un lugar frecuentado por los turistas y los locales igualmente, puesto que los dueños Sam y Alex abrieron su primera barra a través de la calle algunos años. Desde entonces, se han ampliado a través de la calle y han convertido el lugar para escuchar la música en vivo los fines de semana.
La Hach también ofrece un menú completo, y conmemorar la ocasión ofreciendo medio precio en sus hamburguesas hechas en casa además de las bebidas tropicales 2 x 1 durante la hora feliz, que es a partir del 6 - 9 p.m. Música en Vivo comenzará apartir de las 10:30 p.m. Para los que quieran seguir la fiesta.

Gaby Pineda for Carnaval Queen
For a lot of people, Carnaval is simply just a 3 or 4 night parade downtown, what many people don’t realize is that there are many events leading up to the actual event, including the selections for Carnival King and Queen., which have already taken place. One of the candidates for Carnaval Queen is Gaby Pineda. Gaby is 20 years old and is studying at the Univeristy of Quintana Roo for a degree in tourism, and has lived here in Cozumel for most of her life. Gaby has a facebook page, where you can track her fundraisers, and her progress as she attempts to reach her goal as Queen of this year’s Carnaval. http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php?gid=190872106848.
Candidates campaign throughout the island with a series of events, dances and presentations throughout January. The election will take place on January 23rd.
Para mucha gente, Carnaval es simplemente un desfile de 3 o 4 noches en el centro, pero mucha gente sabe que hay muchos acontecimientos que conducen al acontecimiento real, incluyendo las selecciones para el rey y la reina del carnaval., que han ocurrido año tras año. Help for New Year's Resolutions

The SEA – Spanish English Academy is starting up classes on January 11th, and they are looking for volunteers, on a drop in basis, so their students can listen to native English speakers. There are both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings in English and in Spanish on the island. Para muchos de nosotros, el Año Nuevo es una época para el cambio y las resoluciones. Three Kings Day
Tradition states, that on the day of January 6, three of the Kings: Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar, arrived on horse, camel and elephant, bringing respectively gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus. Children, and many adults, polish and leave their shoes ready for the Kings' presents before they go to bed on the eve of January 6. Sweet wine, nibbles, fruit and milk are left for the Kings and their camels.
A special treat served on this day is the Rosca de Reyes -- a circular-shaped sweet bread decorated with jewel-like candied fruits. Tiny figures of babies are hidden in the dough before baking. Everyone cuts his or her own slice, for whoever gets a piece containing a baby is obliged to host another party, traditionally with tamales, on or before Candlemas, February 2, when Mexico's holiday season finally comes to an end.
Días de tradición, que en el día del 6 de Enero, los tres reyes: Melchor, Gaspar, y Baltasar, llegan con el caballo, el camello y el elefante, trayendo respectivamente el oro, el incienso y la mira al bebé Jesús. Los niños, y muchos adultos, dejan sus zapatos o calcetines listos para los Reyes' presentes antes de que se vayan a la cama en la víspera del 6 de Enero. El vino dulce, las botanas, la fruta y la leche se dejan para los reyes y sus camellos.
Una comida especial se sirve en este día, que es la Rosca de Reyes -- un pan dulce circular-formado adornado con joya-como las frutas escarchadas. Las figuras minúsculas de bebés se ocultan en la pasta antes de cocer al horno. Cada uno corta su propia rebanada, porque quieren consigue un pedazo que contiene a un bebé se obliga a hacer una fiesta, tradicionalmente con los tamales, en o antes del día de la Candelaria, el 2 de febrero, cuando Mexico la estación del día de fiesta, finalmente acaba.

This is the last of his 3 seminars here in Cozumel, which will take place January 3rd, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Centro FMTP in Corpus Cristi. La Esperanza: This year residents of La Esperanza were able to have a wonderful christmas dinner, featuring a new roof over their heads, lights to see their meal, a decorated christmas tree, and a large table to share their meal, due to the efforts of Jan Erickson and all of those who helped donate items for her garage sales. Jan plan son making the benefit sales a monthly event so that women who are on the waiting list can also begin their new lives. Since space is limited, her new goal is to create a second floor for the woman’s shelter, and fill some of the shelters immediate needs such as the following:

Los residentes de el refugio La Esperanza podían cenar maravilloso para Navidad, con una nueva azotea sobre sus cabezas, luces para ver su comida, un árbol de navidad adornado, y una mesa grande para compartir su comida, debido a los esfuerzos de Jan Erickson y todo de los que ayudaron a donar cosas para sus ventas de garaje.
