New Patrol Vehicles Arriving for Cozumel Police

Cozumel will soon be receiving 16 new police patrol vehicles.  Last week Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, Roberto Borge, presented Cozumel’s President Fredy Marrufo with the new fleet, which includes 10 Suzuki 150 motorcycles, 3 Chevrolet cruisers and 3 Chevrolet crew cab 2500 trucks.  The vehicles have already arrived in Chetumal, the state capitol, and are expected to be on island by the end of the week.

Llegarán nuevos vehículos para la policía de Cozumel

En sólo unos días Cozumel recibirá 16 unidades nuevas para la policía. La  semana pasada, el Gobernador del Estado, Roberto Borge, entregó al presidente municipal de Cozumel, Fredy Marrufo, la nueva flotilla que incluye 10 motocicletas Suzuki 150, 3 vehículos Chevrolet del tipo Criuze y 3 doble cabina marca Chevrolet modelo 2500. Los vehículos ya se encuentran en la Capital del Estado, Chetumal, y se espera que lleguen a la Isla al final de la semana.

Members of the Fishing Cooperative To Receive Additional Safety Equipment

Members of Cozumel’s Fishing Cooperative, or Sociedad Cooperativa de Producción Pesquera Cozumel will soon be given a helping hand from various federal and state agencies, as well as members of the private sector in the form of financial support for the purchase of various marine safety items.   Overall, the program is designed to increase safety for island fisherman.  Included in the subsidized package of goods available are radio equipment, life saving vests, marine distress flares and even new engines.

Los socios de la Sociedad Cooperativa de Producción Pesquera de Cozumel en breve recibirán ayuda de varias dependencias federales y estatales así como del sector privado a través de apoyo financiero para la adquisición de diversos artículos para la seguridad marítima. En general, el programa está diseñado para aumentar la seguridad de los pescadores de la Isla. El paquete de bienes subsidiados incluye equipo de radio, chalecos salvavidas, bengalas e incluso motores nuevos.

Air Ambulance Service Now Available in Cozumel

AirLink Air Ambulance has expanded operations into Cozumel.  In operation since 1998, AirLink provides air ambulance services in Mexico, Central and South America.  Cozumel’s international airport is a strategic location for the expansion, since it’s one of the southernmost airports in the country.  The local representative will be AeroFerinco here in Cozumel, and the company has already set an operations base with a 1995 Lear Jet 35, which is equipped as a full intensive care center.

La empresa de ambulancias aéreas AirLink extiende sus operaciones hacia Cozumel. AirLink ha estado en operaciones desde el año 1998, brindado su servicio de ambulancias en México, Centroamérica y Sudamérica.
El Aeropuerto Internacional de Cozumel es un sitio estratégico para la expansión ya que es uno de los aeropuertos que se ubica más hacia el sur en el país. AirLink estará representada en Cozumel por AeroFerinco y la empresa ya estableció una base de operaciones con un Lear Jet 35 del año 1995, equipado como un centro de cuidados intensivos completo.

Cozumel Charity Highlight of the Week: DIF  by Nancy Murray De Anda

Lots going on  with DIF, we are always looking out for folks who want to get involved.
 
As most of you know this year's Carnaval will have its first special  needs King and queen catergory. A special shout out and thanks to Phil and Char Briggs who were able to quickly pull together the funds to cover the expenses for the costumes of 10 of the comparsa dancers, who are also special needs.

How can you help? The American Community here in Cozumel are currently helping out with a drive to collect adult diapers and Nido baby formula for DIF Desarrollo Intergral de Familia, local social services. I just wanted to take a quick momento to thank everyone who has contacted me and donated or donated directly to DIF.
 
If you are here on Island or wll be visiting son, please consider taking a minute and helping this worthy ongoing cause. Simply pick up adult diapers and or Nido powdered milk the next time you hit the super.  The DIF offices are all the way dwn at the end of 30 Avenida, the folks down there will welcome you warmly.

Organización benéfica de Cozumel que destaca en la semana: DIF por Nancy Murray De Anda

Muchas cosas están ocurriendo con el DIF; siempre estamos buscando personas que quieran participar.
Como muchos de ustedes saben este año el Carnaval por primera ocasión incluirá la categoría de Reyes con capacidades especiales. Un llamado especial así como agradecimiento a Phil y Char Briggs rápidamente reunieron los fondos necesarios para cubrir el costo de los disfraces de 10 bailarines de la comparsa, también con capacidades especiales.

Lo que los jóvenes y los adultos mayores necesitan
¿Cómo puede ayudar? La comunidad estadounidense que reside en Cozumel actualmente está brindando ayuda a través de una campaña en apoyo a los servicios sociales del DIF que tiene como objeto recaudar pañales y  leche Nido para bebés. Quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para brevemente agradecer a todos aquellos que me han contactado con sus donativos o que los han llevado directamente al DIF.
Si usted se encuentra en la Isla o vendrá de visita en pocos días, por favor tómese un minuto para apoyar a esta continua y noble causa. La próxima ocasión que vaya al supermercado, simplemente compre algunos pañales para adultos o leche Nido en polvo. Las oficinas del DIF se encuentran al final de la 30 Avenida; las personas que ahí se encuentran le recibirán de una manera muy cordial.

The yoga community of Cozumel has been rapidly expanding over the past few years, creating a nurturing environment for students and teachers alike, making it possible for new venues and styles to emerge and fostering new collaborations.

But what is yoga? It’s not just a bendy work-out. Nor is it just a meditative chanting of OM for hours on end. Yoga is an art of skillful living, a way of life, a state of mind. Yoga is a practice of self-observation, resulting in knowing yourself better and being able to honor your feelings. The physical yoga practice is designed to create a safe environment in which such self observation is possible. Your physical practice can be vigorous and challenging or mellow and slow, but it’s never about what you do, but rather about how you feel while doing it. And once you open to your real feelings on the mat, little by little you start paying more attention off the mat, taking new concepts you learn in class into your daily life. And this is when the real yoga begins.

Over the next months, we’ll explore all the aspects of yoga practice – from different styles of physical practice to meditation to yogi’s ethical code. You will get a chance to meet yoga teachers who have the privilege to guide your practice on this beautiful island and learn about yoga studios, styles, events and community projects on Cozumel. En los últimos años la comunidad yoga de Cozumel ha crecido rápidamente, creando promoviendo un entorno enriquecedor tanto para estudiantes como para los maestros, haciendo posible que surjan nuevos centros y estilos, fomentando nuevas colaboraciones.
¿Pero que es el yoga? No es sólo un ejercicio flexible; ni tampoco se trata sólo de entonar OM meditativamente durante horas. El yoga es un arte de vida práctica, una forma de vida, un estado de ánimo. El yoga es la practica de la auto-observación, resultando en conocerse mejor a uno mismo y ser capaz de respetar los sentimientos propios. La práctica física del yoga está diseñada para crear un entorno seguro a través del cual es posible la auto-observación.  La practica física que usted realice puede ser dinámica y exigente o tranquila y lenta;  y nunca se trata acerca de lo qué hace, sino cómo se siente al estarlo haciendo. Y una vez que en el tapete de yoga se abre a sus verdaderos sentimientos, poco a poco comienza a poner mayor atención en lo que sucede fuera del tapete de yoga, llevando a su vida cotidiana los nuevos conceptos aprendidos en clase.
Durante los siguientes meses exploraremos todos los aspectos de la práctica de yoga; desde los diferentes estilos de la práctica física a la meditación hasta el código ético del yogui. Tendrá la oportunidad tanto de conocer a maestros de yoga que tienen el privilegio de guiar su práctica en esta bella Isla así como aprender sobre los estudios de yoga, los estilos, eventos y proyectos comunitarios en Cozumel. ¡Manténgase atentos! US Consular representative for Playa del Carmen will be hosting a “Town Hall” style meeting  - on Friday, February 14th at 3pm.  The meeting will be held at Tony Rome’s Restaurant, located on Av. 5 between Salas and 3rd.  The meeting is designed to provide information and respond to inquiries about continuing consular services available to US Citizen’s residing and travelling to Cozumel, Mexico.
