2nd Annual "Fiesta Cozumel" party

Mark your calendars for the 2nd annual “Fiesta Cozumel,” which will take place on Tuesday August 4th at the Playa Azul Beach from 6 – 9 pm.  The party, which promises to be a night of fun, features live music and free beer, all for an extremely economical entrance fee of $70 mn! Enjoy an evening of live entertainment featuring Sonny Winters, Chad & the CBC Trio, and friends!  Food and drinks will also be available for purchase!  “Fiesta Cozumel” is being organized by Mike and Susan Beech from Cozumel Tours.

¡Desde ya marquen sus calendarios¡ la Segunda Fiesta Anual “Fiesta Cozumel” se llevara a cabo el martes, Agosto 4 en las instalaciones de Playa Azul , de 6 a  9 de la noche. Este evento, que promete ser una noche completa de alegría, presentara música viva y toda la cerveza que pueda beber, por una módica cuota de recuperación de solo $ 70.00 pesos. Please join us and Canal 5 today, Thursday, from 7 – 8 pm as we host a live interview program, Cozumel 4 You..  This week, it’s all about animals, in addition to the “Pet of the Week” we’ll be joined by Rita from Albatros Charters, who will be discussing deep sea fishing techniques, local tournaments, and  even some insider secrets.  We’ll also have Cindy, from CIEMA wildlife sanctuary.  As always, we’ll also be featuring local news and events, in English, on Cablemas Channel 25 hosted by Laura Wilkinson, Cozumel 4 You, and Katie Jackson, of Blu Bambu Salon.Spa.

Mayab Hunter

I swear it on my dear mama, commander! On the most sacred, on the life of my kids; everything happened just as I told you, there never was any mean wish, any bad intention; it was those dammed bad spirits, those aluxes that my compadre, God save his soul, had warned me about…

-We had been inside the jungle several times before, two days, three days; pure necessity commander, somehow we have to provide to barely feed our families, just look at me, already with 5 kids and the woman with the business still fully operational. There is no work and by picking up aluminum cans, discarded metal, it’s never enough…

-Well yeah, I don’t want to lie to you commander, sometimes I smoke the rock, drink the beers, cheap aguardiente… But I always think of my starving family first.

-We were gone by sunrise, you know how hot it gets later on; we walked about four hours and then we split… that was when everything went down the drain…

-I have already told my compadre, his soul be at the side of God father! “Weapons are the devil” but he was stubborn as a mule, he kept saying: “I’ll send the animals to you”, “you go and hide in the bushes and I’ll beat the wild beasts in your direction”… Well, finally, he lent me his shotgun, all beaten up the old thing, but my compadre, blessed be his soul, for sure kept it trigger ready and well oiled.

-That’s how it was, dude. Sorry, sorry! Commander. I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m telling you… we got separated; I went in the direction of the darkest part of the jungle, you know how it is: the intolerable heat, clouds of cannibal mosquitoes; it went on and on , separated for about another three hours, suddenly, I started to hear strange noises like those made by animals roaming the jungle. I just went small, small and quiet in my hiding place, sweating, trying not to scare them… I cocked the shotgun.

-Yeah, yeah, I said that weapons are the devil and that my compadre, his eternal soul be at the mercy of the Almighty, lent me his shotgun, but you know? I also know how to handle a piece; I’m not a fool commander. Well, where was I?... Ah! Yeah, coming straight from the jungle, through a little clear in the bushes, I saw one of those wild pigs charging, a big hog; I definitely saw it, just as I am looking at you, commander.

-But commander! I would never dare to offend you in such a manner! I`m just saying that I saw it sharp, in the flesh, as if it was right here snorting as a vision from hell, the dammed beast.

-What was I supposed to do? I just shot it right there and then and, dammed be my luck! I hit it right between his ugly face and breast He fell hard in front of me in a huge cloud of sand, twigs and blood; dead to the world.

-But commander, I`m telling you again that it was those dammed creatures from the jungle, those well known aluxes, evil spirits from the bush who changed my vision; It is impossible for you to think that I was going to kill my poor little compadre Vicente, may his soul live forever in the company of our holy Virgin of Guadalupe, and least of all by a shotgun wound in his face… As much as I loved my compadre.

El Cazador del Mayab

  -¡Se lo juro por mi mamacita comandante! Por lo más sagrado, por la vida de mis hijos; todo pasó como se lo dije, nunca hubo maldad ni mala intención, fueron esos malditos malos espíritus, esos aluxes de los que mi compadre, que en paz descanse,  ya me había advertido…

-Otras veces ya nos habíamos metido a la selva a cazar, dos, tres días; la necesidad mi comandante, de alguna forma tenemos que sacar para mal alimentar a los crios, vea yo, cinco hijos y la mujer que no tiene para cuando cerrar el negocio, pos`onde, juntando latas, chatarra, nomás no sale…

-Bueno si, pa` que mentirle mi jefe, a veces me fumo mi piedrita, a veces tomo las chevas, el pisaraña… pero eso si, primero la vieja y los chamacos…

-Salimos amaneciendo, ya ve como se pone el solazo después, caminamos como cuatro horas y ya luego nos separamos… ahí fue cuando la puerca torció el rabo.

-¡Pues si yo ya le había dicho a mi compadre, que Diosito nos lo tenga en su santa paz, que las armas son del diablo pero el, necio, que si” yo te los arreo para allá”, que “tu escóndete en la hondonada y yo te los espanto”… Total, me prestó su escopeta del 16, toda viejecita la pobre pero bien aceitada que la traía mi compadre, que en Gloria este.

-No pues si así fue may, ¡perdón, perdón! mi comandante, no quise ofender. Le digo, nos separamos, yo agarre pa lo mas oscuro de la selva, el calorón, las nubes de mosquitos; así seguimos, separados como otras tres horas, de repente, que empiezo a escuchar ruidos como de animales moviéndose por la selva. Nomás me hice chiquito, chiquito pa`no espantarlos y amartille la escopeta.

-Si, si,  dije que las armas son del diablo y que mi compadre, Dios nos lo tenga bajo su cuidado, me presto su escopeta, pero yo también se manejar los cuetes, no se crea mi comandante. Bueno, ¿adonde iba?... A si, pues que de entre la selva, por un clarito, que veo que se acerca un marrano de esos salvajes, un jabalí grandote; al tiro lo vide, así como lo estoy viendo a usted mi comandante.

-¡Nombre mi comandante, jamás me atrevería a ofenderlo de esa manera! Si yo nomás digo que así, de bulto, haga de cuenta que aquí estuviera el maldito jabalí bufando como el demonio.

-¡Pos que iba yo a hacer! Luego luego que le tiro y pa` mi maldita suerte, merito en medio de la jeta y el pecho que le pego al mentado jabalí. Todavía rodó frente a mis ojos entre la espesura, levantando polvareda, rompiendo malezas y regando sangre por todos lados.

-Pero comandante, le repito que fueron esos malditos duendes, esos mentados aluxes, espíritus malignos de la espesura los que me trastocaron la visión, como se pone usted a pensar que yo iba a matar a mi pobrecito compadre Vicente, que more eternamente a la vera de la Santísima Virgen de Guadalupe, menos de un escopetazo en su jetita… tanto que lo quise a mi compadrito.
