Movie Filmed in Cozumel, "Ventanas al Mar "Debuts in Guadalajara Film Festival

The movie, “Ventanas al Mar,” which was filmed entirely in Cozumel last year was recently debuted at the “.Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara (FICG).’ The movie centers around a young Mexican couple, and a retired Spanish couple that meet in Cozumel, and have an intense experience at sea that changes their lives forever. Ventanas al Mar stars Natalia Córdova and Raúl Méndez, and is directed by Jesús Mario Lozano. It is Lorenzo’s third film. This was the 27th year of the FCIS, which is considered to be the second most important film festival in Latin America.

La película “Ventanas al Mar”, totalmente rodada el año pasado en Cozumel, se estrenó en el “Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara” (FICG). El tema principal del largometraje se centra en una joven pareja de mexicanos y una pareja retirada de nacionalidad española que se conocen en Cozumel y juntos viven una experiencia en el mar que cambia sus vidas para siempre. Las estrellas de Ventanas al Mar son Natalia Córdova y Raúl Méndez y la dirección estuvo a cargo de Jesús Mario Lozano. Es la tercera película de Lorenzo. Esta fue la 27ª. edición del FCIS, considerado el segundo festival de cine más importante en Latino América.

Daylight Savings Time in Cozumel Starts on April 1st

While the United States observes daylight savings time by springing forward the second Sunday in March, our area of Mexico will not change the clocks until the first Sunday in April at 2 am.

Please use extra care when calculating departure times for tours, ferries and other events, during this interim period.

El horario de verano en Cozumel inicia el 1� de abril

Mientras en los Estados Unidos aplican el horario de verano a partir del segundo día domingo de marzo, la zona a la que pertenecemos en México no cambiara los relojes sino hasta el primer día domingo de abril a las 2 a.m.

Por favor, tenga sumo cuidado al calcular los horarios de salida de excursiones, ferries y otros eventos durante este período de transición.

Earth Hour, March 31st, Organized by Students

We are gradually protecting Mother Earth, but rest assured we are steadily advancing to make an event for her that will be as huge and amazing as last year.  

Fort the past weeks and since the visit from city authorities, Instituto Gardner is moving full gear so that the Earth Hour celebration may take place at Andres Quintana Roo with students’ support in search of businesses that wish to offer environmental assistance with prices for a raffle that will help raise the funds for the cause. Dinners, cake and coffee, yoga activities and diving are just some of the raffle prizes that will take place at 9:30 pm on the day of the event. Posters, t-shirts, logos and candles will be as important as the assistance of our dear cozumelenians.    

In their aim to promote the cause, students will visit schools and explain other students and teachers about the importance of the Earth Hour. This information will also be available in the Facebook page “La Hora Del Planeta EarthHour Cozumel”and very soon we will paint radio and television in green.

You can also be part of this event from home by turning the lights off at home or business at 8:30 p.m. It would be a great support if you come early on the day of the event, bringing a candle so we can all make of this a warm and exciting activity. We will be expecting you at 7:30 pm so that by 8:30, the lights (of the park and we also hope to get permission for the lights on the seafront avenue and the flag pole area) can be turned off, thus giving opportunity for the candles and our hearts to shine on this Earth Hour. To stir up the flame, at 8:30 a show with fire and African drums as well as the raffle at 9:30 pm.

Much more will be waiting for you on Saturday March 31, 2012. ¡It will be a great evening for our planet! In the meantime, we will keep our ideas in motion.

La Hora del Planeta, Marzo 31, organizada por estudiantes

LPaulatinamente vamos protegiendo a nuestra madre Tierra pero ten por seguro que estamos progresando constantemente para hacer un evento para ella que será fenomenal y tan fantástico como el año pasado.

El Instituto Gardner se ha puesto las pilas estas semanas desde la visita al ayuntamiento para permitir el festejo de la Hora del Planeta en el parque Andrés Quintana Roo hasta la colaboración de los estudiantes en busca de negocios que quieran ofrecer su ambientalista ayuda con premios para la rifa planeada que cuya intención es recaudar fondos para los materiales de la causa. Cenas, pastel y cafe, actividades de yoga, y buceosson unos ejemplos de los premios de la rifa que se llevará a cabo a las 9.30 pm el día del evento. Posters, camisas, logotipos, y  velas serán tan importantes como la presencia de nuestros Cozumeleños queridos.

Queriendo promover la causa, los alumnos irán de escuela a escuela a explicar a jóvenes y maestros la importancia de la Hora del Planeta. Asimismo estará esta información disponible en la página de Facebook “La Hora Del Planeta EarthHour Cozumel” y no tardando estaremos pintando de verde en la radio y televisión.

Tú puedes colaborar desde tu hogar también, apagando una hora las luces de tu casa, o negocio desde las 8.30pm. Sería de gran apoyo que contribuyeras con una vela el día del evento viniendo desde temprano para hacer más cálida y emocionante la actividad. Estaremos esperándote a las 7.30 pm para que a las 8.30pm las luces eléctricas (luces del parque, y esperamos conseguir el permiso tambien para el malecón, incluso del asta bandera) se puedan apagar dándole oportunidad a las velas y a nuestros corazones de brillar esta hora del planeta. Para que la llama se avive tendremos un show de entretenimiento con fuego y tambores africanos a las 8.30 pm junto con la rifa a las 9.30pm.

Habrá mucho más esperándote el Sabado 31 de Marzo del 2012, ¡Tendremos una velada increíble para nuestro planeta! Mientras, seguiremos poniendo en marcha nuestras ideas.

Cozumel Police Release February Accident Statistics: Many Accidents, Few Injuries

According to municipal authorities, there was a total of 74 vehicular accidents on the island in the month of February.  Damages associated with these accidents totaled more than $340,000 pesos.  While over 50 people were injured in these accidents, there was not one fatality reported. 

La polic�a de Cozumel da a conocer las estad�sticas de accidentes del mes de febrero: muchos accidentes, pocas lesiones

 De acuerdo a las autoridades municipales, durante el mes de febrero ocurrieron un total de 74 accidentes vehiculares. Los daños causados por estos accidentes sumaron poco más de $340,000.00 pesos. Aún cuando más de 50 personas resultaron heridas en estos accidentes, no hubo un solo reporte de fallecimientos.

Humane Society Pets of the Week

Having a pet is a responsability, because we are taking on our hands a living being and because we will share  our lives with the pet.
Preventive Medicine is a big step forward in the right direction, yes, our pet needs love and hugs, water, food, housing, excercise, but just as we do, a regular visit to the doctor is important.

We live in paradise, but that comes with a price, there are diseases we have to deal with, that means: deworm, vaccinate, and prevent. Ask your vet to know what does your pet needs to be happy and protected against viral diseases, internal and external parasites, and heartworm.

Please remember to spread the word, the Humane Society of Cozumel has an ongoing free neutering/spaying campaign, you just need an appointment (987 112 3376), the donation goes to support all the animals at the shelter while they wait for their forever home.

KRILLIN male honey tabby cat, he's been here since he was a baby, as a kitten he was scared and wouldn't purr, now he's sweet thanks to treats and hug-a-therapy.

MOKA female big teen. As a puppy, shewas left in the garbage outside the shelter, very sweet dog, relaxed and smart.

Las Mascotas de la Semana de la Sociedad Humanitaria

Tener mascota es una responsabilidad, porque estamos tomando en nuestras manos a un ser vivo y porque compartiremos nuestras vidas con la mascota. La Medicina Preventiva es un gran paso al frente en la dirección correcta, si, nuestra mascota necesita: amor y abrazos, agua, comida,  casa, ejercicio, pero al igual que nosotros, la visita regular al doctor es importante.

Vivimos en el paraiso, pero eso viene con un costo, hay enfermedades con las que tenemos que lidiar, esto significa: desparasitar, vacunar y prevenir. Pregunta a tu  veterinario para saber que es lo que tu mascota necesita para estar feliz y protegida de enfermedades virales, parásitos internos y externos y el gusano del corazón.

Por favor recuerda difundir que la Sociedad Humanitaria de Cozumel tiene una campaña permanente de esterilización gratuita, solo necesitas hacer cita (9871123376) el donativo es para apoyar a todos los animales en el refugio en lo que esperan su hogar por siempre.

MOKA hembra adolescente grande. Cuando era cachorra,  la dejaron en la basura afuera del refugio, es muy dulcen relajada e inteligente.

CMC/CostaMed: Making Medical Tourism A Success in Cozumel

March is International Multiple Sclerosis  (MS) awareness month.  CMC/Costa Med recently got the chance to ihelp a MS patient, with their brand-new cardio center. Richard Beecroft traveled from Canada to Cozumel for an angioplasty with Dr. Moguel.  His statement appears below.

 I have had MS for over forty years. I mistakenly assumed that angioplasty would be of little benefit to me, so I waited two years before having the proceedure. I was badly mistaken! After receiving CCSVI Angioplasty in Cozumel my MS has reverted to what it was like twenty years ago! From the moment Dr Moguel first started opening up my azygos vein I was able to notice a growing mental clarity. When he moved the probe up to my right and left jugulars this clarity became pronounced. After forty years of restricted blood flow from my brain this new mental clarity was immensely liberating! When I got out of bed the next day I realized that I was a different person.. mentally, and physically. It was significantly easier to walk, talk, think and move!

The Mexican people were all fantastic. Congenial and helpful! And all the staff at Costamed treated me royally. From Andres Brakke who organized an incredible raffle, (the means for those financially challenged to have the procedure), to Maria head of patient services who took care of her patients every need, to the hospital staff who were more like friends than bossy nurses, and Dr. Moguel whose incredible expertise is only surpassed by his huge heart and caring manner!! 

The Richness of over 2,000 years of Mayan, Aztec, and other cultures make Mexico a real delight!!  The island of Cozumel itself is extremely safe... with up to seven cruise ships a day coming into harbour it has to be! It is also one of the best diving spots in the world with an incredible reef around much of the island.  Other than the procedure, the highlight of my time there was going to the relatively unspoiled east coast of the island where there were no Hotels, incredible fine sand beaches, wild surf, and few people.

CMC/CostaMed: Un �xito en Cozumel la creaci�n de turismo m�dico

Marzo es el mes de la Concientización Internacional sobre la Esclerosis Múltiple (EM). En fechas recientes, a través de la herramienta en internet “ihelp” y de su nuevo  CMC/CostaMed tuvo la oportunidad de ayudar a un paciente con EM en su nuevo centro de cardio. Richard Beecroft viajó de Canadá a Cozumel para una angioplastia con el Dr. Moguel. Esta es su declaración:

“He padecido EM por más de cuarenta años. Supuse equivocadamente que la angioplastia  me daría pocos beneficios, así que espere dos años antes de tener el procedimiento. ¡Estuve muy equivocado! Tras recibir la angioplastia CCSVI (insuficiencia venosa cerebro-espinal crónica) en Cozumel, ¡mi EM se revirtió a como estaba hace veinte años! Desde el momento en que el Dr. Moguel comenzó abriendo mi vena ácigos; pude notar un aumento en la claridad mental. Cuando movió la sonda hacia mis yugulares derecha e izquierda, la claridad se acentuó. ¡Después de cuarenta años de flujo sanguíneo restringido del cerebro, ¡esta nueva claridad mental era inmensamente liberadora! Al levantarme el día siguiente, me di cuenta que era una persona distinta… ¡mental y físicamente! ¡Me fue considerablemente más sencillo caminar, hablar, pensar y moverme!

¡Todos los mexicanos fueron fantásticos, amables y atentos! Y todo el personal de CostaMed me trató magníficamente. Desde Andrés Brakke, quien se encargó de organizar una rifa increíble (los medios para quienes enfrentan dificultades económicas para someterse al procedimiento), hasta María, quien está a cargo de la atención a los pacientes, y quien se encargó de todas las necesidades de sus pacientes, hasta el personal del hospital quienes fueron más amigos que enfermeras mandonas y, el Dr. Moguel, ¡cuya increíble experiencia sólo se ve superada por su enorme corazón y comprensión!

¡La riqueza de más de 2000 años de las culturas maya, azteca y otras, hacen de México un verdadero deleite! La Isla de Cozumel en sí es extremadamente segura… y con el arribo aproximado al puerto de siete buques turísticos al día, ¡tiene que serlo! Es también uno de los mejores lugares en el mundo para bucear, con un arrecife increíble que rodea casi toda la Isla. Independientemente del procedimiento, el lo más destacado de mi estancia  fue visitar la relativamente virgen costa oriente de la Isla, donde no hay hoteles sino increíbles playas con arena muy fina, fuerte oleaje y poca gente.”

Tickets are on sale for March 23rd Breakfast  Benefit “Tadeo’s Shoes Cozumel” - On Friday March 23rd,  La Tienda de Guidos will host a fundraising  breakfast for “Tadeo’s Shoes Cozumel” from 9 am – 12 noon.  Tickets are $200 pesos and include a buffet, as well as entry into the raffle for some great prizes donated by local businesses.  You can purchase your tickets at La Tienda de Guido’s, Paprkia Restaurant or directly at DIF.  To learn more about the group, check out their facebook page, or register to attend their fundraiser.

Trashy Little Group March Clean-Up Event – This year the Trashy Little Group has already removed over 200 bags of garbage off our island’s beaches, thanks iin part, to all who turned out for the “Tip the Island Party” where over 58 bags alone were collected.  Keep in mind that you can collect trash whenever you have the time and add it to the group’s counter, so don’t wait for the next monthly clean-up.  Speaking of clean ups, the March event details have been announced and you can find them there!.

Evento de limpieza del mes de marzo del grupo Trashy Little– Este año el grupo Trashy Little ya ha retirado más de 200 bolsas de basura de nuestras playas de la Isla.  Agradecemos, en parte, a todos los que llegaron a la “Fiesta Inclinando la Isla”, donde se recogieron más de 58 bolsas. Hay que tener en mente que puede recoger basura siempre que tenga tiempo y añadirlo al conteo del grupo, así que no se espere  hasta el próximo mes de limpieza. Hablando de limpiezas, se han anunciado los detalles del evento en marzo y los puede encontrar.
