Downtown Cozmel Scavenger Hunt Set for this Friday, May 21st
Mark your calendars for this Friday, May 21st for our first ever downtown Cozumel Scavenger Hunt. We've wracked our brains to come up with a series of clues and needed objects that will create a nice walking tour around the downtown (zocalo) area. Best of all, we've arm wristed some local restaurants and merchants into donating prizes for the winners, including first place and last place, as well as some others along the way
The fun starts at 6 pm at the AQUA bar in the lobby of the Hotel Flamingo, where you can assemble your team and collect your clue sheets. The actual hunt starts right at 6:30 pm. Throughout the evening we’ll have Cozumel 4 You team members at the AQUA Bar, Woody’s Bar and the French Quarter in case anyone needs a hand. Wander around downtown, collect your objects and clues, stop, visit with friends, or try a new drink or appetizer at any, or all, of our sponsor locations.
A special shout out to prize sponsors, Rock N Java, Galeria Azul, Cozumel Surfing, La Cocay Restaurant and Blu Bambu Salon. Afterwards, La Cocay is offering a 15% discount for anyone who participates in the Scavenger Hunt.
Marque sus calendarios para este viernes, 21 de mayo para nuestra primera búsqueda en Cozumel recolectando pistas (Scavenger Hunt en ingles). Sacudamos nuestros cerebros para llegar a una serie de pistas y diferentes objetos para llevar a cabo un agradable tour caminando alrededor del área del centro de la ciudad (zócalo) obteniendo pista. Lo mejor de todo, que algunos restaurantes locales y comerciantes han donado algunos premios para los ganadores, incluyendo el primer lugar y el último lugar, así como algunos otros.
La diversión comienza a las 6 pm en el AQUA bar en el vestíbulo del Hotel Flamingo, donde puede hacer tu equipo y recoger las hojas donde encontraras la información para seguir las pistas y recolectar la información para llegar a la meta. La búsqueda real comienza justo a las 6: 30 pm. Results of the "Rodeo de Lanchas Mexicanas 2010" Fishing Tournament
Congratulations to the Chetumal-based “Sea Star” who won the grand prize and took home a brand new Hummer. Second, third and fourth place were all secured by Cozumel boats: “Nuria”, “El Diabilito”, and “Barrilete”, who also took home trucks and cars. Over 150 boats entered Cozumel’s largest fishing tournament. Cozumel’s next fish-related tournament is the second lionfish tournament, scheduled for May 30th, with a cash prize of $5,000 mn for first place.
Felicidades a la embarcación "Sea Star" traída desde Chetumal, que ganó el gran premio y se llevó a casa un nuevo Hummer. El Segundo, tercero y cuarto lugar fueron para embarcaciones de Cozumel: "Nuria", "El Diabilito" y "Barrilete", que también ganaron camionetas y automóviles. El torneo de pesca más grande en Cozumel con más de 150 barcos participantes. El Siguiente torneo en Cozumel es el segundo torneo del pez León, el 30 de mayo, con un premio en efectivo de $ 5.000 pesos para primer lugar.
 
Sacred Mayan Passage Road Closings
The Sacred Mayan Passage takes place in Cozumel Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 20th – 22nd with over 250 participants, 118 from Cozumel, in 24 canoes. The ceremony will take place near the public beach, Caletita, located on the waterfront, just north of Meridiano 87. As a result avenida Rafael Melgar will be closed on the waterfront side (southbound side) from Calle 21 to avendia Claudio Canto for the three-day event.
El paseo sagrado Maya va a ocurrir en Cozumel, el jueves, viernes y el sábado, 20-21-22 de mayo con más de 250 participantes, 118 de Cozumel, en 24 canoas. La ceremonia se llevará a cabo cerca de la playa pública, Caletita, situada en la zona ribereña, junto al Meridiano 87. Como resultado la avenida Rafael Melgar estará cerrada en el lado de la orilla (lado sur) desde la calle 21 a la avenida Claudio Canto para este evento de tres días.
  
Humane Society "Pets of the Week"
On the left you'll see photos of six of the ten garbage dump dogs rescued recently together in a kennel. They form a very tight nucleus around Zacatecas the matriarch (black to the right), mother to Burra and Osita. The other 4 dogs: Nich, Machin, Loca and Cabecita, are a little more independent but stay close. Gabacho has been there to visit them on various occasions. He is still hoping to receive some help from the City. Front: Osita 2, Osita 1, Zacatecas. Back: Chel, Burra 2, Burra 1
Seis de los diez perros rescatados del basurero recientemente descansan juntos en una jaula. Forman un núcleo muy sólido, alrededor de la matriarca Zacatecas (negra), madre de Burra y Osita. Los otros 4 perros: Nich, Machín, Loca y Cabecita, son un poco más independientes pero se mantienen siempre cerca. EL Gabacho los ha ido a visitar en varias ocasiones. Su situación está lejos de ser resuelta, y sigue esperanzado en obtener ayuda del gobierno. Frente: Osita 2, Osita 1, Zacatecas. Atras: Chel, Burra 3 y Burra 1.

Cozumel Cloisonne Unique Pendants at Galeria Azul
Looking for a Cozumel-themed gift? Greg Dietrich, owner of Galeria Azul, has announced the arrival of five unique pieces of glass jewelry from a Cozumel inspired artist. The five new arrivals are pendants made with the cloisonne technique, and are one-of-a-kind, including the Punta Sur light house, an eagle ray, a depiction of Frida Kahlo, and two tropical theme pieces. Turtles Already Active this Season
Turtle nesting season officially began on May 15th, on the eastern side of the island. Acces to the eastern beaches has been restricted, in order to protect endangered marine turtles. Already seven turtle nest have been identified and marked.
La Temporada de anidación de tortuga empezó oficialmente el 15 de mayo, en el lado oriental de la isla. El Acceso a las playas orientales ha sido restringido, con el fin de proteger a las tortugas marinas en peligro de extinción. Hurricane Season Approaching
June 1st is the beginning of the Caribbean Hurricane Season. Scientists are predicting 15 hydrometeorological phenomena during this year, including seven possible tropical storms, four hurricanes of category one to three, and four of magnitudes between three to five. Kudos to Cozumel Police
Congratulations to Cozumel Police officer Abel Quiroga Hernandez, who exhibited his honesty and commitment to duty when he turned in $1,500 mn and a credit card that was inadvertently left in an ATM machine located at the Municipal Palace last week. While making a regular patrol of the area, Officer Quiroga discovered the card and the money, turning it into the Police Station, where it was returned to it’s rightful owner.
Felicitaciones a la policía de Cozumel Abel Quiroga Hernández, que exhibió su honestidad y el compromiso cumpliendo con su deber cuando encontró 1.500 pesos y una tarjeta de crédito que se quedó en un cajero ubicado en el Palacio Municipal la semana pasada. Mientras patrullaba la zona, El oficial Quiroga descubrió la tarjeta y el dinero, regresándola a la comisaría de policía, donde fue devuelta a su legítimo propietario.

Guido’s French Wine Tasting – Guido’s Restaurant is hosting a wine tasting event with Dr. Pierre Jacquemin, a French wine merchant, on Friday May 28th or Saturday May 29th starting at 8 pm. They will be pairing 8 wines including, sparkling, white, red and dessert wine, with their respective courses from Chef Yvonne Villager’s kitchen. The event is organized and collaborated by: Casa de Cultura Ixchel, Museo de la Isla de Cozumel in conjunction with the Foundation of Parks and Museums, Anabel Himberton and the Mosca Morada Teatro.
