Welcome Ironman Athletes!

Cozumel’s third Ironman competition is just a little over two weeks away!   The sold-out event is expected to bring 2,500 athletes from around the globe, as well as friends and family to cheer them on!  According to the tourism board, groups of competitors have already begun to arrive on island, to begin acclimating to the Cozumel course.    The official distances for the Cozumel Ironman are:  3.8K (2.4mi) swim / 180K (112mi) bike / 42.2K (26.2mi) run.    The Triathlon officially opens on November 27th starting at 6:40 am, and continues on until midnight.     For more information on the event, or including the road closures, check out the webpage.   http://www.ironmancozumel.com/

¡La tercera competencia del Ironman en Cozumel se llevará a cabo en poco más de dos semanas! Se espera que este evento, totalmente agotado, traiga consigo a 2,500 atletas provenientes de todo el mundo, así como amigos y familiares que los animarán. De acuerdo con la Oficina de Turismo, ya comenzaron a llegar grupos de competidores a la Isla con el objeto de con el recorrido de Cozumel. Las distancias oficiales para el Ironman de Cozumel son: 3.8K (2.4mi) natación/ 180K (112mi) bicicleta/ 42.2K (26.mi) carrera. El Triatlón abre oficialmente el 27 de noviembre a partir de las 6:40 a.m., y continuará hasta la medianoche. Over a Thousand Cruise Ship Arrivals in a 2011

According to the port authority, Apiqroo, the island of Cozumel will finish out the year with 1,014 cruise ships having called into our port during 2011.  From January – October 2011 there were already 794 ship arrivals.  Although, this number is down slightly from the year before, when 1,035 ships called into Cozumel, expectations are still high.  In fact, Apiqroo’s projections have 115 arrivals in the month of December alone, which should make for a strong high season.

Más de mil arribos de buques turísticos durante el año 2011

De acuerdo con la autoridad portuaria Apiqroo, la Isla de Cozumel cerrará el año 2011 con 1,014 arribos de buques de turísticos a nuestro puerto. Durante el periodo de los meses de enero a octubre del 2011 se registró el arribo de 747 buques. A pesar de que esta cifra es un poco menor al año anterior durante el cual arribaron 1,035 buques a Cozumel, las expectativas aún son altas. De hecho, Apiqroo anticipa 115 arribos tan solo para el mes de diciembre, fortaleciendo, así,  la temporada alta.

End of Dengue Carrying Mosquito Breeding Season, Fumigation Efforts Relaxed

According to representatives from the Secretary of Health for the state of Quintana Roo, the breeding season of the aedes aegypti mosquito, which is responsible for carrying the Dengue Virus, has finally ended. As a result, much of the intensive fumigation efforts will be relaxed.  Last Monday, health workers carried out a street to termonebulización in the downtown areas.  Normal fumigation efforts will continue, to control mosquito larva.

De acuerdo con los representantes de la Secretaría de Salud del Estado de Quintana Roo, la época de cría del mosquito aedes aegypti, portador del virus del dengue, ha llegado a su fin. Por lo tanto, disminuirán muchos de los esfuerzos de la intensa campaña de fumigación. El pasado día lunes, los trabajadores del sector salud, aplicaron termonebulización en las calles de toda la zona del centro. Continuarán los esfuerzos de manera regular para controlar la larva del mosquito.

Free Energy Efficient Light Bulbs to be Distributed Throughout Mexico, DF Earning Carbon Credits

The Australian company, Cool nrg International, has announced plans to distribute 45 million energy efficient lightbulbs to 6.5 million low-income households in Mexico, DF.  The plan is expected to create an energy savings of 33,000 gigawatt hours, cutting annual emissions by the equivalent of about one-third of auto emissions.   In 10 years, the reduction could be as high as 16 million tons of CO2.  The Mexican Government will earn  royalities out of the credit sale proceeds.  For more information on the program, check out this page. 

Se distribuirán gratuitamente focos ahorradores en México D.F. logrando créditos de carbono

La empresa australiana Cool nrg International dio a conocer su planes para distribuir 45 millones focos ahorradores a 6.5 ​​millones de hogares de bajos ingresos en México, D.F.  El proyecto prevé la creación de un ahorro energético de 33,000  gigavatios hora, reduciendo las emisiones anuales en un equivalente aproximado a un tercio de las emisiones producidas por los automóviles. En 10 años  la reducción podría ser tanto como 16 millones de toneladas de CO2. Con esto, el gobierno de México obtendrá beneficios de los ingresos de ventas a crédito.  Para mayor información acerca del programa, visite aqui.

Humane Society Pets of the Week

CLOE - Cloe is a 7 month old Border Collie mix, with shiny black hair and white markings on head and feet. She was relinquished by a young couple who was moving to a different city and had no luck finding a good home for her. When they brought her she was clean and healthy; obviously they had taken good care of her. Cloe is a very well adjusted dog and will be a great companion for a family. She has a very sweet character, is smart, playful and funny.

ARIEL CAT - He looks like he has an attitude. Well, he does, a little bit. But he quickly goes into playing mode if petted.  The expression actually means: well, have you thought of it enough? Can you take me home now?

Las Mascotas de la Semana de la Sociedad Humanitaria

CLOE - Esta es una perrita cruza de Border Collie de 7 meses de edad, con pelo negro brillante y manchas blancas en la cabeza y las manitas. A ella la trajeron sus dueños, una pareja muy joven que cambió de residencia y no podían llevarla con ellos. Intentaron sin éxito buscar un buen hogar para ella. Cuando la trajeron estaba limpiecita y sana, además de bien portada. Se conoce que la tenían bien cuidada y socializada. Cloe es una perrita bien balanceada que será una excelente compañera para una familia. Tiene un carácter muy dulce, es juguetona y muy simpática.

GATO ARIEL - Parece que este gatito tuviera un problema de actitud, pero en realidad no le dura mucho. Apenas lo acaricias pasa al modo amoroso y juguetón. La expresión que ves aquí en realidad dice: Bien, ¿ya lo has pensado lo suficiente? ¿Me puedes llevar contigo de una vez o qué?
